Plans to remove a historic dam to prevent "catastrophic" damage to the A38 on the Staffordshire and Derbyshire border have been delayed due to rising flood water.
The project, being carried out by the Environment Agency, would see the majority of the centuries-old Dove Cliff Weir, between Rolleston and Egginton, removed.
An Environment Agency spokesman has previously said the dam needs constant and costly maintenance and "is going to give way at some point".
Work has been under way for a number of weeks to prepare the delicate removal operation, but it has now been paused due to health and safety dangers around "very high river flows".
Removal of the weir was due to start in October with work to be completed by February next year.
