  7. Woman has 'no smell' weeks after coronavirus symptomspublished at 15:16 British Summer Time 19 May 2020

    BBC Radio Derby

A Derbyshire woman who believes she contracted coronavirus said she is still experiencing a loss of smell.

Clare Howard, from Little Eaton, said she suddenly could not distinguish between her child's dirty and clean clothes - and "couldn't smell dog poo" - in late February.

The 52-year-old said she developed a cough two weeks later and self-isolated as advised by the government.

"The cough only lasted about a week, but I still haven't got my smell back - it's been over 10 weeks," she said.

Mrs Howard added she was unable to get a coronavirus test to confirm she had contracted it as at the time it was only available for hospital patients.

On Monday the government added a loss of smell or taste to the list of coronavirus symptoms people should look out for.

  10. Fears over potential key worker bike loan shortagepublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 19 May 2020

    BBC Radio Leicester

A council that launched a scheme offering bicycles to key workers for free fears there may be a shortage as hundreds have applied.

The Leicester City Council initiative, called Leicester Bike Aid, was organised by the authority's Ride Leicester team.

The council said 360 people have requested a bike to help them commute to work.

Ride Leicester project manager Andy Salkeld said more unused bikes were needed to meet demand.

He added the donations need to be in working condition and would be checked before they are loaned.

More than 400 key workers have been helped so far, the authority added, either by them being loaned a bike or by having their own bikes fixed.

Cycling and walking have been encouraged, with the government urging people returning to work to avoid public transport if possible.

  14. Concerns over whether Broadmarsh work will be completedpublished at 08:37 British Summer Time 19 May 2020

    Local Democracy Reporter

The owners of Nottingham's Broadmarsh shopping centre have said they are "taking the time to review the situation" before restarting work on the redevelopment.

While other major construction projects around the city have resumed in the last week, including on the Broadmarsh car park, questions have been raised about if the development will be completed.

Construction firm Sir Robert McAlpine said it was "awaiting instruction" from Intu and had implemented safe social distancing measures on its other sites.

Yesterday, Nottingham Independent city councillor Maria Watson asked the Labour-run city council for clarity, adding: "While we understand Intu's public statements have indicated construction will only recommence when it is safe to do so, and that with the current Covid-19 situation these concerns are absolutely legitimate, there is obviously also speculation the delays have as much to do with Intu's very public financial issues as they do with social distancing."

Intu recently announced it was at risk of defaulting on its debts unless lenders could give them breathing space.

In normal circumstances, the question would have been answered in the meeting, but due to the meeting being held online over Zoom, it was agreed that responses would be given by the council within 10 days.
