Three men have been arrested after two men were found unconscious in the centre of Nottingham.
Nottinghamshire Police said officers were flagged down by members of the public on Market Street at about 04:30 on Saturday after reports that a group of men had assaulted two others.
The victims, aged 41 and 42, were taken to hospital, and a force spokesman said one has regained consciousness while the other is still receiving treatment for a head injury.
The three arrested men, aged 18, 19 and 22, are being questioned on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and remain in custody.
Market Street has been cordoned off, which has caused disruption to tram services.

A man is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after an assault in Leicester late on Friday night.
Leicestershire Police said they were called to Braunstone Gate just outside Natterjacks at about 22:30 after a man was found unconscious in the street.
The 49-year-old was taken to hospital for treatment to serious head injuries, a force spokesman said.
A 27-year-old man from Leicester has been arrested on suspicion of committing grievous bodily harm and is currently in police custody.
Any witnesses or anyone with information are urged to contact Leicestershire Police.

Officers want to speak to the drivers of two vehicles after a woman was sexually assaulted in a Derby park.
The victim, in her 20s, was assaulted by a man in Rowditch Recreation Ground on Saturday between 22:00 and 23:30 BST.
Derbyshire Police say two cars entered the car park, off Uttoxeter Old Road, at the time of the assault and officers were keen to speak to the drivers.
Anyone else with information is also urged to contact the force.

Police have cordoned off part of Nottingham city centre after a report a man had been attacked.
Officers were called to Burton Street, near the Theatre Royal, at about 02:10 this morning.
Nottinghamshire Police said the 21-year-old victim was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries which were not believed to be life-threatening or life-altering.
Det Insp Ruby Burrow said the investigation was at a "very early" stage and no arrests have been made.
She urged anyone with information to contact the force.
