  4. Dartmouth prepares for historic flypastpublished at 14:45

    A flypast over Dartmouth later today will commemorate the Fleet Air Arm's greatest raid. 

    A Fairey Swordfish bomber and Hawk jets will fly over Britannia Royal Naval College at around 15.30 to mark the 75th anniversary of the raid on Taranto during World War II.

    Exeter Stagecoach's depot is to be turned into student accommodation, external, the Echo can reveal. The site in Belgrave Road has been sold as part of the re-development of the bus and coach station and will be turned into student accommodation with shops and leisure facilities on the ground floor.

    - There's an accident on the A377 Cowley Bridge Road in Exeter.

    -  The A3072 in Brandis Corner is partially blocked with slow traffic near the turning for Black Torrington, because of an overturned horse box.

    - Watch out for queuing traffic on the A374 Embankment Road outbound in Plymouth around Glendinnings Paving, because of a rolling road-block, a hole in the road and emergency repairs.

    -  There's queuing traffic on the A38 in Bodmin between the industrial estates and Carminow Cross in the roadworks area.

    - On the A30 in Camborne, a lane is blocked on the exit slip road westbound at Tolvaddon, because of a broken-down vehicle. Approach with care.

    - Roadworks are causing problems on the A390 in Liskeard at Addington Service Station; on the A390 Tresawls Road in both directions in Threemilestone near the Treliske Roundabout and the A39 between Carland Cross and the Trispen junction.

  7. South West schools face 'teacher shortage'published at 14:18

    The average South West school had to advertise 4.3 teacher posts this year amid a "drastic shortage" across the country, according to a BBC investigation.

    NAHT president Tony Draper said: "The government needs to invest heavily in the recruitment of teachers. There's a drastic shortage, it is severe and it is only going to get worse if they don't."

    However ministers insisted teaching "remains a hugely popular profession" with the highest numbers joining since 2008.

    In a series of tweets Assistant Chief Constable Paul Netherton pointed out five thousands round were fired in the raids in Paris yesterday.

    A sewage pumping station and an ex-treatment works are among 30 sites being auctioned by South West Water today.

    Seven underground water storage tanks and moorland plots are also on the list of properties no longer needed.

    The company said half the proceeds will be returned to customers through lower bills, with £5m already returned from previous auctions.

    Any European grants in Cornwall that are clawed back by the government cannot be spent anywhere other than Cornwall, the EU has confirmed. 

    The government is demanding repayment of several million pounds, saying grant rules were not followed by recipients.

    The EU has now confirmed that any money clawed back in this way would have to be recycled locally, as Cornwall is the only place in England that qualifies for this type of help.

    The jury in the fraud trial of Shelterbox founder Tom Henderson has been discharged after failing to reach verdict.

    Tom from Helston, his son John from Hayle and Darren Gervis from Beaminster, were accused of conspiracy to commit fraud, which they denied.

    The jury told the Old Bailey it could not reach a verdict after its seventh day of deliberations. The prosecution have been given 15 days to decide whether to ask for a re-trial.

    A man has been charged with causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving, after a coach carrying elderly people crashed into a wall near Looe.

    Two people died in the collision - Margaret Luxton, 59, from Exmouth, and Carol Muldoon, 68, from Newton Poppleford. Forty eight others on the Age Concern day trip from Exmouth were injured.

    Martin Chun, 59, from Whitestone near Exeter has been released on bail and will appear before Bodmin Magistrates on 7 January.

    Plymouth Argyle manager Derek Adams says he will begin talks on extending the contracts of Graham Carey, Jake Jervis and Reuben Reid soon.

    The trio are among a number of the League Two leaders' top performers who are out of contract next summer - Jervis and Carey have scored 18 goals between them, while Reid has been top-scorer for the last two seasons.

    "We'll sit down with the players and hopefully extend some contracts," Adams told BBC South West.

  20. School trips to France 'cancelled'published at 12:07

    The Foreign Office has advised British schools against upcoming trips to France after the Paris attacks.

     "As part of the national state of emergency, the French ministry of education has cancelled all school trips within France by French schools until Sunday," the Foreign Office said.
