  4. Junior Doctors strike vote: What does it mean for local hospitals?published at 11:21

    Jenny Walrond, Health Correspondent
    BBC Spotlight

Junior doctors in England have overwhelmingly voted in favour of going on strike in their dispute with ministers over a new contract.

We have around 2,000 junior doctors in the South West, but we can't say how many will get involved. They're not all union members, they won't all be on shift and the first strike doesn't include those providing emergency care.

Hospitals aren't saying what their contingency plans are, but  It's likely that planned surgery for those dates would be cancelled and consultants pulled from their normal duties to cover for their striking colleagues.
