Young people in coastal and rural regions face some of the worst provision of careers support, according to a report.

The Careers & Enterprise Company, external (CEC) identified "cold spots" in England, including Cornwall and the Black Country. 

Chief executive Claudia Harris said: "Our report reveals the provision of enterprise and career skills is not consistent for all young people in England". The study will be used by CEC to allocate its £5m investment fund.

A woman from Cornwall has finally achieved her mission to get proper sanitary care for women into a refugee camp on the Syrian border.

Amy Peake from Withiel near Bodmin has also set up a six month pilot to encourage women to make affordable sanitary and incontinence pads at the Zaatari refugee camp in Jordan.

Amy said: "My vision is that this machine goes all over the world to help poor underprivileged women financially by allowing them to work." You can read more about Amy's journey here.

- There are a couple of accidents causing problems in Plymouth, Lockyer Street and Higher Compton Road are affected.

- In Bideford the A386 is partially blocked near Ford Rise due to an accident.  

- In Tiverton, on the A361 we have reports of an accident near the Bolham roundabout.

- On the A30 westbound, between Sourton Cross and Stowford Cross there has also been an accident.

The owners of a spacecraft found off the Isles of Scilly are believed to have visited the islands and taken away parts of the vessel, the BBC has been told.

Receiver of Wreck, external Alison Kentuck said the wreckage was the property of Spacex, she said.

She said: "It belongs to the owner. They were sending someone to look at it and see what might be disposed of. I am trying to determine what has happened, but I believe they have taken parts off it."

An amphibious assault ship has returned to its home port after leading a major Royal Navy deployment in the Mediterranean, and hosting the Queen in Malta.

A Cornish detective has paid tribute to the victim of a violent rapist who has been jailed, 33 years after his crime.

Nicholas Bertram, 56 - from Kingston Upon Thames, Surrey, but originally from Camborne - was questioned in 1982 but never charged. Now advances in DNA technology have led to him being jailed for 10 years at Truro Crown Court.

Det Insp Steve Hambley from Devon & Cornwall Police, external said the conviction would not have happened without the courage of the victim, adding: "I believe she has shown exceptional strength and dignity throughout the whole investigation, and I do hope that she can take some closure now that her attacker has been identified.”

A large turnout is expected this evening when Thurlstone Parish Council, external discusses controversial plans to install car park pay barriers at one of Devon's most popular beaches 

The new owners of Bantham estate say barriers are essential to ease traffic congestion, but the proposal has caused a local outcry.

RNLI volunteers from Devon and flood experts from Cornwall have joined emergency teams helping people caught up in floods in Cumbria.

One volunteer, Glen Mallen, said: 'We currently have five Flood Rescue Teams on the ground, with four specifically adapted boats for flood rescue. We are working closely with other emergency services on the scene to help those in need. 

"Thankfully most of those helped are uninjured, but understandably distressed. It is so sad to see this kind of devastation, especially so close to Christmas." You can follow the BBC's live coverage here.

Cornish Pirates director of rugby Ian Davies says his side were 'phenomenal' in their 38-19 win at London Welsh.

The bonus-point win was the Pirates' fourth in succession in all competitions and their second consecutive league win.

"To come away from home to London Welsh, who are a good strong outfit, our second half performance was phenomenal," Davies told BBC Cornwall, adding: "To go in at half-time just a point up, London Welsh left the field and thought they'd won the game."

RNAS Culdrose's 771 Naval Air Squadron is expecting a busy final month of search and rescue work before it "passes the baton" to Maritime and Coastguard Agency contractor Bristow Helicopters after 40 years of operations, it commander says.

Bristow, based at Newquay Airport, takes over on 1 January. But Lt Cmdr Dick Calhaem said 771 "does not expect the pace to relent" and they tend "to get a wide variety of jobs in December".

He said: "We have carried out all kinds of rescues: sailors in distress, tourists stuck on cliffs after storm watching, walkers cut off by the tides; and, over Christmas, watersports enthusiasts trying out their equipment. One Boxing Day, the squadron was involved in a rescue mission involving nine canoeists."

An enormous Queensland Grouper called Samson is settling into a new home at the National Marine Aquarium.

Samson arrived at the Plymouth attraction as a 4.5kg juvenile. He now weighs in at 24kg and - after careful feed training - has joined the 650,000 litre Great Barrier Reef tank.

There is disappointment on Scilly as debris from a rocket, found in the sea off Tresco, is removed by owners SpaceX. Local people have been told it could have contained 'sensitive information.'

A woman whose body was found in a van in Devon has been formally identified, police say. 

The body of 71-year-old Hilda Mary Oakland was found in the vehicle in Fenny Bridges, near Honiton, on 2 December.

Charles Broom, 66, from Honiton, was due to appear at Exeter Crown Court on 17 December, Devon and Cornwall Police said.

An electricity pole which snapped, resulting in the death of a power worker who'd climbed it, was "suspect", an inquest has heard.

Western Power Distribution worker Ryan Thomas, 28, died in January 2013 when he fell from the pole near Cawsand in Cornwall.

The pole had been "classified as a suspect pole" by the utility company but not marked as such, Georgina Speake from the Health and Safety Executive told the hearing. 

The inquest in Truro, which is expected to last up to two weeks, continues.

Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron has said questions must be asked about cuts to flood defence schemes.  

The government has faced criticism after multimillion-pound defences built following devastating floods in 2005 failed to keep the deluge out of people's homes in Cumbria - prompting the county to declare a major incident.  

However, the Prime Minister said ministers would review existing flood defences in England and Wales.
