    Train services have been halted in Devon amid fears a storm-damaged tree could collapse over the main rail line between Tiverton and Exeter.

    Network Rail, external said the decision to suspend services had been taken as a precaution while engineers assess the situation.

    Earlier today all services were suspended in Cornwall when a CrossCountry Penzance to Glasgow hit a fallen tree near Bodmin Parkway.

    An RSPCA inspector has gone missing after attending the rescue of dozens of sea birds at a beach in Cornwall during Storm Imogen.

    Inspector Mike Reid, 54, has not been seen since he was called to a wildlife rescue involving 20 to 30 gannets stranded on rocks at Porthchapel Beach, near Penzance, at approximately 14:00 on Sunday.

    Gales and severe gales are expected to continue with gusts of 70-80mph in exposed areas, but scattered, locally heavy, showers will gradually become less frequent through the afternoon.

    This evening and tonight the winds will gradually ease, although coastal gales will remain. It will be a mainly dry night, with some isolated showers in the north and west and a minimum temperature of 2 Deg C (36 Deg F).

    A falling tree smashed into the roof and windscreen of a car along a minor road in Cornwall.

    The tree crashed into the Peugeot car on the road between Zelah and Goonhavern. Nobody is believed to have been injured.

    - Strong winds have brought down power lines and numerous trees, causing widespread disruption to traffic across Devon and Cornwall. 

    - The A38 Plymouth-bound will be closed between Deep Lane and Forder Valley overnight from 20:00 until 06:00 for bridge work.

    - The Exeter-bound carriageway of the A38 will be closed between Belvedere Cross and Kennford for resurfacing from 20:00 until 06:00. Diversions will be in place.

    - The Taw Bridge near Barnstaple in Devon is closed to all vehicles due to strong winds.

    - In Cornwall, the A38 westbound carriageway near Liskeard will be closed overnight between Trerulefoot Roundabout and Looe Roadwill for resurfacing.

    - On the A38 in Devon from Goodstone Cross to Ashburton there will be a Plymouth-bound lane closure from 20:00 until 05:00 for resurfacing work.

    Passengers stranded on a Penzance to Glasgow train damaged by a fallen tree have been safely transferred to a coach.

    Trains in and out of Cornwall have been suspended since the incident near Bodmin Parkway station.

    Network Rail said single-track services into Cornwall would resume shortly, however there would be no trains leaving the county yet.

    Police have named a 64-year-old Redruth man who went missing in the Porthcurno area of Penzance on Sunday in atrocious weather conditions.

    Police, external and coastguard, external teams are carrying out a sea and coastal path search after Mike Reid failed to return from work and his white van was located at the Minack Theatre car park.

    He is described as white, 5ft 8ins tall, of stocky build, with short greying spiked hair. He was wearing black trousers, a white shirt and black jumper. 

    Insp Jean Phillips said: "We are extremely concerned for Mike's welfare, particularly with the wet and windy weather overnight."

    The refit of the Royal Navy warship the HMS Argyll has been suspended after a hangar door at Devonport dockyard was damaged by Storm Imogen.

    A spokesperson from the Ministry of Defence contractors Babcock confirmed strong winds caused damage to a large shutter door within the frigate refit complex and said nobody had been injured.

    "As a safety precaution an exclusion zone has been established around all three complex doors and work temporarily suspended on the refit of HMS Argyll," the spokesperson said.

    The Met Office has confirmed that waves of 19.1m (almost 63ft) have been recorded at St Ives.

    Our team managed to film a glimpse of extremely dangerous conditions in Newquay from Pentire Headland to Fistral.

    - All train services in and out of Cornwall have been cancelled due to a tree which has fallen across the tracks near Bodmin.  

    - In Plymouth the A386 is partially blocked, with slow traffic, due to a fallen tree around Derriford Roundabout.

    - In Washaway, the A389 is partially blocked by an accident near Old School Lane.

    - In Exeter, Pennsylvania Road is blocked due to an accident around Stoke Valley Road junction. A local farmer is on the scene cutting up a tree.

    - In St John, Cornwall, there are reports of an obstruction on St Johns Lane around Church Lane.  

    - In Bude there are very hazardous driving conditions round Madeira Drive and Marine Drive due to sand on the road.
