    Police are searching for a 64-year-old man from Redruth who went missing in the Porthcurno area of West Cornwall yesterday. 

    The man was reported missing at around 06:00 today and his car was found at the Minack Theatre car park.

    A sea and coastal path search is ongoing by police and coastguard on the ground and by helicopter.

  2. Firefighters evacuate tree crash trainpublished at 12:25 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2016

    Firefighters in Cornwall are evacuating the Penzance to Glasgow Cross Country train which has been damaged by a fallen tree.

    Passengers have been stuck on the train since Storm Imogen brought the tree down across both tracks about a mile from Bodmin Parkway station.

    Network Rail's engineers have removed the tree and are now moving passengers to a coach instead.

    A man whose car was crushed and house damaged by a falling tree said the noise sounded like a bomb going off.

    Russell Cooke was about to take his daughter to school when the tree was brought down in Old Ide Lane, Exeter at about 08:00.

    He said he initially thought it was thunder, adding it was an "absolutely terrifying" ordeal and they were lucky to be alive.

    Waves of 13.5m and gusts of 81mph have been recorded off the Isles of Scilly as Storm Imogen takes hold.

    A met office spokesperson said the sea conditions were associated with storm force 11 - the most violent on the scale. 

    Nicola Maxey from the Met Office said: "With a phenomenal sea state you would expect to see waves of above 11.5m, so far a buoy has recorded waves of 13.5m off the Isles of Scilly."

    Network Rail says all trains in and out of Cornwall have been cancelled for the foreseeable future as engineers try to remove a tree which was hit by a train on the main line near Bodmin.

    She says the train has been damaged and a team of engineers is on its way to the incident near Bodmin Parkway. 

    When asked about passengers on the damaged train, she said it was "impossible" to say how long passengers will be on the train for, adding "we can't have people wandering about on a live line".

  15. Train hits tree on main railway line in Cornwallpublished at 10:10 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2016

    A train travelling from Penzance to Glasgow has crashed into a tree on the main line through Cornwall.

    It's affecting both tracks one mile west of Bodmin Parkway station.

    Network Rail says nobody's been hurt and engineers are en route to the incident to inspect the track for any damage.

    Fire crews are out in the Totnes area where people's houses have been flooded, external.

    Some roads have rain up to a foot in places, affecting nearby households. 

    The Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service says firefighters have been using pumps to clear some properties and have been helping to clear gullies.
