    A rare Sumatran tiger cub at a Devon zoo has made his public debut, staff say.

    The 10-week cub at Paignton Zoo is the first born at the wildlife park since 2009. Mother Shakira gave birth to three cubs on 31 May, but two subsequently died.

    Curator of Mammals Neil Bemment said: "Shakira is being an attentive mother and, at first, she may choose to take the cub to the far end of the paddock for some privacy. But, no doubt, when she carries it about, or it ventures away from her side, visitors will get some good views."

    Former Bodmin Town forward Neal struck after 33 minutes as the White Tigers won 2-0 at Concord Rangers, with Arran Pugh getting the second goal five minutes later.

    "He's a little bit disappointed that he's not put his name on the score sheet a couple more times," Hodges said."But for a debut he's got to be very happy with himself. He's all about moving his feet and getting that shot off and it was something that you see in training and you hope he can produce in the match and he has done, it's that little bit of quality that gets us that first goal," Hodges added to BBC Radio Cornwall.

    A motorcyclist who died after a crash in Connor Downs has been named as 22-year old Anthony Alloway.

    Emergency services were called to the crash between a silver Volkswagen Polo and a blue motorcycle at Turnpike Road on 6 August. 

    Anthony’s father Paul said: “He was a lovely boy who had a very kind loving nature, polite and loved to please and be there for his family and friends. I am proud to have been able to watch him grow and flourish into a young man.

    “He was always the class clown which made him a unique and special boy. My son's smile has gone but his memory will live on in all that knew him. He is flying with the angels and one day we will be together again."

    The protection of three merchant shipwrecks off the South West coast has been welcomed by the archaeologist at Devon County Council.

    Bill Horner said: "While these wrecks have been known about for some time and we have been monitoring their condition, it's great that Devon's maritime past is now being recognised."

    The wrecks are rare examples of wooden sailing vessels found in English waters and all three lie in sand or in mud and on certain tides can be accessed on foot.

    Another person has died off the Cornish coast, making it four deaths in as many weeks.

    The swimmer was pulled out of the sea at Porthtowan after getting caught in a suspected rip current on Sunday.

    The person was rescued by local surfers, who also performed CPR, before being airlifted to the Royal Cornwall Hospital. Coastguards said the swimmer has since died.

    Senior coastguards told BBC Radio Cornwall it has been a particularly busy weekend, with numerous rescues around the coast.

    Two spotted eagle ray pups have been born at Plymouth's National Marine Aquarium following a seven-year project, staff say.

    The aquarium said the male and female pups were "healthy and feeding well"; and the birth was believed to be a UK first.

    Curator James Wright said: "Eagle rays require a well thought out and dedicated level of care, and, as such, they are incredibly difficult to breed in captivity." He said the Plymouth facility had been in regular contact with a Dutch aquarium for help, as it was "the only other aquarium in Europe to have successful bred spotted eagle rays in the past".

    A new country park is to be created in Dawlish, but the local authority won't say where and how much is being spent on it. 

    Thousands of new homes are being built in the town at the moment, and Teignbridge Council is required by law to create new green public space to take pressure off the nearby international wildlife site at Dawlish Warren.

    A coach driver was using a hands-free mobile phone at the time his vehicle crashed near Looe, killing two of his passengers, a court has heard.

    Fifty-nine-year-old Margaret Luxton and Carol Muldoon, 68, were among 50 people on an Age Concern trip from Exmouth to Looe when their coach crashed on a steep hill at Morval on 13 May 2014. 

    Martin Chun, 59, of Whitestone, near Exeter, denies causing death by dangerous driving, or death by careless driving, and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. The trial, at Truro Crown Court, which is expected to last at least five days, continues.

    A Bulgarian man has appeared in court, charged with the murder of a 38-year-old woman who has been missing in Exeter for more than a week.

    Forty-two-year-old Kostadin Kostov is alleged to have killed his former partner, Gergana Prodanova between 4-10 August. The body of the mother-of-three (pictured) has not been found.

    Speaking through an interpreter at Exeter Magistrates' Court, Mr Kostov, of Mount Pleasant Road, spoke only to confirm his name, age and address. No plea was entered and he was remanded in custody to appear before the city's Crown Court on Tuesday via video link.

    Firefighters have finally left the scene of a blaze that broke out a week ago at a tyre recycling centre in west Cornwall.

    The blaze at St Erth, near Hayle, started at about 20:15 last Monday. No-one was injured but the yard owners' turtle was killed. The blaze needed "babysitting" after it was brought under control, firefighters said.

    The service tweeted, external that it had "successfully concluded" operations.
