Coastguards have praised the quick actions of locals who rescued a person from the sea at Porthtowan and tried to carry out resuscitation.
Coastguards were called just before 09:00 on Sunday after the swimmer got into difficulty. It's thought they may have been caught in a rip current. By the time rescuers arrived at the scene, the swimmer had been rescued by local surfers who were performing CPR.
A Coastguard helicopter, St Agnes and Portreath Coastguard Rescue Teams and the St Agnes inshore lifeboat were all dispatched, along with the air ambulance and police. The swimmer was airlifted to the Royal Cornwall Hospital.
