    The A390 on the outskirts of Truro, heading to Threemilestone, only has one lane of the westbound carriageway operating because recent weather has "impacted on the construction taking place overnight" on the road, Cornwall Council says, external.

    It added: "We appreciate that this will cause congestion for people during rush hour and apologise for the inconvenience. Please allow extra time for your journey this evening where possible."

    Teenage Torquay United midfielder Will Hancox has moved to Southern Premier League side Cirencester Town on a one-month loan deal.

    Train disruption between Exeter St Davids and Taunton is expected to continue until at least the end of Wednesday 23 November, National Rail Enquiries says, external.

    Heavy rain flooded the railway at Cowley Bridge (pictured), taking out ballast from underneath tracks, and leaving trains between the Devon and Somerset stations unable to run.

    National Rail Enquiries said there was "currently no firm estimate" as to when the line would reopen, but it was currently expected it would "continue until at least the end of the day tomorrow."

    Great Western Railway advised customers not to travel unless absolutely necessary, and it had a "very limited replacement road transport". Where possible, services between the South West and London Paddington have been diverted via alternative routes.

    Five people have been arrested by police investigating a stabbing in Plymouth that left a man in hospital.

    Devon and Cornwall Police said, external the 48-year-old man was found injured after officers were called to Duke Street in the Devonport area at about 18:45 on Wednesday 2 November.

    Four men - aged 47, 34, 18, and 17 - and a 36-year-old woman have been arrested in connection with the incident. All five are on police bail, pending further investigations. Officers have appealed for witnesses.

    A yachtsman was rescued after winds gusting more than 60mph ripped the mast from his vessel off St Ives.

    St Ives Lifeboat launched to the demasted 31ft  yacht Joyful 25 miles north west of St Ives Head at 01:30 after the skipper who was sailing single-handed fired two red flares from the boat.

    The six crew were 25 minutes into the rescue when they were told the stricken skipper had been transferred to another boat by ladder.

    St Ives Lifeboat crew Nick Philips said: “With the weather we had for the last few days, I knew it was going to be something serious when the pager went off. Although we got stood down on the way to him, it's good to know that the sailor was rescued and uninjured."

    As engineers work to repair severe flood damage to parts of the South West's main rail lines, businesses have taken a "double hit" because of the weather.

    Storm Angus - the first named storm of the winter - brought almost a month's worth of rain in just two days, resulting in severe disruption to train services.

    Tim Jones from Devon and Cornwall Business Council, external said it was ironic the first big storm of the winter had yet again caused travel chaos just as the Peninsula Rail Task Force, external was delivering a report to local MPs in Westminster detailing why further investment is so crucial for the long term future of the South West.

    "We take a double hit as not only is there massive disruption... there's the perception that the South West isn't open for business and in terms of investment the ripple effect is equally as damaging," he said.

    Devon County Council says it is working on drainage and anti-flooding schemes across the county after a councillor said the risk of future flooding had to be taken seriously.

    Brian Greenslade said he had asked for an urgent debate at this week's Highway's Meeting and was to follow up the issue at the next full council meeting.

    The council said that, over the next year, it was working on schemes in Axminster, Braunton, Chillington, Frogmore, Ivybridge, Kingsbridge, Modbury, Sidmouth, Stokeinteignhead, Ugborough and Uplyme.

    It went on to say it was spending more than £1.1m on highway drainage improvements, with priority given to preventing surface water from affecting roads and preventing homes from being flooded.

    Police in Cornwall have confirmed they received a report that a man wearing a black balaclava chased a 10-year-old boy in Truro on Monday afternoon.

    The boy was walking home from school near Trelander when he spotted the man and ran towards some older children for help.
