    John Danks, BBC Spotlight

Fishermen in the South West say they're being forced to throw away tens of thousands of pounds worth of sea bass due to regulations.

Current quotas mean only a limited amount of bass can be landed., external

The government says stocks of the fish are in long-term decline, but some fishermen say there have been so many bass in recent years that catching them has been unavoidable.

South West fisherman, Steven Walker, said "hundreds and hundreds of fish" are being thrown away "unnecessarily".

"We are hammered on quotas and regulations constantly because the scientists say there isn't enough fish in the sea."

The government says it's currently considering the latest scientific advice on bass for next year and will work with the industry on measures to recover the stock.

  4. Plymouth nightclub deaths a 'moment of madness'published at 07:04 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2017

    BBC Spotlight

The families of two teenagers who died after collapsing at a Plymouth nightclub at the weekend say it was a "moment of madness".

Aaron Reilly and Joshua Brock, who were both aged 19, lost their lives after taking a form of the drug ecstasy, Devon and Cornwall Police said.

They collapsed in the Pryzm nightclub and later died at Derriford Hospital.

The family of Mr Reilly, from Newton Abbot, described him as "a much-loved son, brother, grandson and boyfriend" who loved skateboarding and playing computer games.

Mr Brock, from Okehampton, was described as "a loving son to Steve and Sandra, an inspirational brother to Liam and Demelza and a loyal mate to all his friends".

"His main hobby was keeping fit and eating healthily, so what happened that night is so totally out of character as he was always against drug taking in any shape or form. One moment of madness led to this tragedy," the family said in a statement.

An 18-year-old man arrested in connection with the deaths has been released under investigation.
