  3. 'Do not travel unless journey is absolutely essential'published at 12:29 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2018

    BBC Radio Cornwall

Several severe weather warnings have been issued across the south west with snow and ice affecting Cornwall's roads.

People are being advised not to go out unless it's absolutely necessary.

The vast majority of schools and colleges are closed, and all railway branch lines, except Truro to Falmouth, are suspended.

Cornwall Council said roadside sensors were showing surface temperatures as low as -3°C, "meaning driving conditions will be challenging".

Gritters had been busy salting, it added.

Steve Bailey, from highways contractor Cormac said that, the further west it was, the worse the conditions were.

He said: "Unless they are absolutely essential journeys, stay at home.

"Even though the main road networks are open, we can't guarantee that they will be all day, so people really need to take care."

The head of the inquiry's south west office, David Poole, says they will be in Cornwall soon to work with agencies in the county.

"Those experiences that people do share with us, when we do come to Cornwall, will be used," he said.

"We recognise that it is enormously difficult for people, maybe whose abuse happened many decades ago to actually come forward. It takes immense courage.

"What I'd say is, in doing that, hopefully you will feel that you've been able to put something to rest for yourself, but also you will have contributed to better protecting children from similar abuse in the future."
