    • In Plymouth on St Levan Road near Fisher Road we've got reports there's an accident
    • On the A399 at Blackmoor Gate at the junction with the A39 we've got reports there's an accident
    • At Heathfield the A382 is partially blocked near Drum Bridges due to an overturned vehicle

    The Met Office has declared an amber warning for snow and ice, external for most of Cornwall and all of Devon between 12:00 on Thursday and 08:00 on Friday.

    • In Quintrell Downs on the A392 East Road near Quintrell Gardens we have reports of a broken down vehicle
    • The B3297 between Helston and Redruth is treacherous with vehicles stuck
    • On the A30 westbound between Redruth and Pool we've got reports there's a broken-down lorry
    • In Grampound the A390 is partially blocked near Mill Lane due to an accident

    • In Torquay the seafront is closed due to sea water coming over the wall onto the road
    • On the A38 Plymouth bound between Lee Mill and Smithaleigh we've got reports there's a broken-down vehicle
    • Also in Plymouth on Molesworth Road near Osborne Road we've got reports there's an accident
    • In Plympton, Plympton Hill is closed in both directions with hazardous driving conditions between Wolverwood Lane and Vinery Lane
    • In Dawlish on A379 there's slow traffic in both directions due to resurfacing work
    • In Exeter, Topsham Road remains closed between Burnthouse Lane and Countess Wear to complete repairs to a burst water main. Diversions are in place
    • Also in Exeter, on Cowick Street, Heavitree Road and Pinhoe Road there's heavy traffic outbound as drivers avoid Topsham Road
    • In West Wembury, a Ford Road lorry is stuck on the hill & a car has been abandoned behind it. Conditions in the area are difficult, so please avoid all rat-runs and shortcuts if at all possible
    • In Thurlestone, Bantham Road blocked in both directions due to accident near Court Park Road
  7. £5.7bn to help weather-proof South West rail linespublished at 16:52 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2018

    Transport Secretary Chris Grayling has committed to delivering a modern railway in the South West that is resilient to extreme weather.

    In a government response to a report by the Peninsula Rail Task Force, he announced £5.7bn was to be invested, and upgrades to stretches of line that run close to the sea through Teignmouth and Dawlish are key to the scheme.

    The government has already provided £15m for Network Rail in addition to £40m that was spent to repair damage caused in the 2014 storm (pictured), which cut trains off from Cornwall and much of Devon from the rest of the country.

  8. Amber weather warnings: What are they?published at 16:42 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2018

    Snowy weather in Devon and Cornwall is set to continue on Thursday, but the Met Office has declared an amber warning for snow and ice, external for most of Cornwall and all of Devon.

    The amber warning is in force between 12:00 on Thrusday and 08:00 on Friday.

    It means a possible risk to life and property with some places possibly seeing significant ice build-ups overnight into Friday.

    The Met Office said long delays and cancellations to public transport were expected, and some roads may become blocked by deep snow, stranding vehicles and passengers.

    Long interruptions to power supplies and other utilities were also likely to occur, it said.

    Health bosses say NHS and social care staff are "pulling out all the stops" to ensure services continue to run during snowy and icy weather.

    NHS Kernow said doctors, nurses, therapists and managers at the Royal Cornwall Hospital near Truro were "offering to sleep at Treliske tonight to make sure services remain open".

    Community and social care staff had also been walking to appointments to make sure vulnerable people were safe and not affected by the weather.

    Minor injury units, West Cornwall Urgent Care Centre, GP surgeries, NHS 111, out-of-hours services and pharmacies were operating as normal, the health body said.

    But it added that Camborne Redruth Primary Care Centre was due to close at 18:00, although its minor injury unit was to stay open until 22:00.

  13. Snow hits council opening times and waste collectionspublished at 15:46 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2018

    Councils in Devon are warning waste and recycling collections will be affected by the snowy and icy weather.

    South Hams Council said no recycling collections were being made on Wednesday and Thursday.

    It added that its offices at Follaton House in Totnes had closed and would stay shut on Thursday, but that staff were "still working remotely to provide as normal a service as possible".

    North Devon District Council has also warned of waste disruption, with some parts proving too difficult for crews to access, particularly the Ilfracombe and Combe Martin areas.

    • Traffic is moving well on the Tamar Bridge and there's a 10-minute wait at Torpoint with three ferries running

    Devon homelessness charity Shekinah says the current snowy and icy weather "has the potential for fatalities".

    Staff at a drop-in centre in Plymouth where many are taking shelter said "people cannot survive in -3C conditions".

    The charity said it was "really worried" and it wanted to get "people off the street".

    Extra emergency overnight accommodation is being offered.
