Toys R Us has gone into administration, putting 3,000 UK jobs at risk.
Administrators have been appointed to begin "an orderly wind-down" of the UK's biggest toy retailer following the failure to find a buyer.
They said that all 105 Toys R Us stores - including in Exeter and Plymouth (pictured) - will remain open until further notice.
Joint administrator Simon Thomas said: "Whilst this process is likely to affect many Toys R Us staff, whether some or all of the stores will close remains to be decided."
Toys R Us has been facing a £15m tax bill. However, poor sales have made it unlikely that it can make the payment.

A van driver has died after a road crash on the A30 in Cornwall, police say.
The small Peugeot van and a Massey tractor with a trailer carrying livestock crashed on the dual carriageway's westbound lanes near Bodmin just before 10:00 on Tuesday.
Officers said the 40-year-old man from West Yorkshire was pronounced dead at the scene and his next of kin had been informed.
The tractor driver was not injured, nor were any of the cattle he was transporting.
The road was closed for an investigation and police have appealed for witnesses.
