    Two lorries have collided on the A30 Okehampton-bound at Exminster, between M5 Junction 31 and the A377 Alphington junction.

    The crash has blocked the outside lane and there are long queues of traffic back to the M5.

    Repairs to fix a burst water main in Exeter were hindered after the works hit a gas valve, Devon Highways bosses say, external.

    Topsham Road is expected to be closed until 17:00 today after the initial burst occurred on Monday. The burst also damaged the road.

    Freezing conditions overnight have also complicated the repairs, utilities staff said.

    A homeless support charity says it is impossible to guarantee that no-one will be sleeping on Cornwall's freezing streets tonight.

    However, Steve Ellis, from St Petroc's, said that the charity and its partners would "do their absolute best" to offer a bed to anyone who needed one.

    In Plymouth, a plan of action has been put in place to help the homeless in the city.

    The city council's severe weather emergency protocol kicked in after temperatures dropped below 0C.

    It means more beds will be available at shelters.

    Topsham Road in Exeter will remain closed today for repairs to a gas main.

    Wales & West Utilities said workers repairing a water main yesterday "had damaged a gas pipe running beneath Topsham Road, causing it to leak".

    "As a precaution, Topsham Road, which was previously closed by the water company and due to reopen today will need to remain closed in order to keep road users, pedestrians and our colleagues safe while we work."

    It said no gas supplies to homes or businesses had been affected.

    “We appreciate that keeping Topsham Road closed is not ideal, but it is important that we fix this leak now, in order to continue to provide a safe and reliable supply of gas to homes and businesses in the area."

    A severe weather response plan was created for Telegraph Hill and Haldon Hill, on the A38 and A380, near Exeter, in response to heavy snowfall in 2009 and 2010.

    Motorists were stranded for up to eight hours in their vehicles during that snowfall.

    Cold weather has intensified overnight, and it will be another very cold day with snow showers close to the south coast in Cornwall, edging a little further northwards during the day.

    They will also be close to both the north and the south coast of Devon.

    Weather

    Some of the showers will be heavy and may leave up to 10cm to 15cm (4in to 6in) of snow in places.

    However, further north it'll remain largely dry with sunny spells. Moderate or fresh northeasterly winds will increase and become strong to near gale force at times.

    Maximum temperature: -1C to 2C (30F to 36F).

    A yellow warning for snow, external is in place from the Met Office for Cornwall and parts of the north and south coasts of Devon.
