Will Wagstaff, an ornithologist on St Mary's, says the appearance of the bird is a bit of a mystery.

    Quote Message

We've had the wrong wind really. We expect American birds with westerlies but we've had southerlies and southeasterlies. We have a laughing gull up on St Martin's, which is an American gull, not as rare by any stretch but still a good rarity. And then this thing turned up. It [may have] come over last autumn, because it was a good autumn for American birds last year. [It may have] been hanging around somewhere in Europe and [is] working its way north."

    Quote Message

We always send letters to residents and put signs up well in advance of resurfacing works, asking that drivers keep the road clear. Unfortunately one or two vehicles are sometimes left on the highway and if we are unable to locate the owner we have no choice but to work around them. We can apply for powers to move vehicles but we avoid doing this unless absolutely necessary."
