    A project to extend and restore a nature reserve in Bude will be stepped up thanks to a £55,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, external.

    Greena Moor is one of just a few fragments of "Culm grassland" remaining in England, and was designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest in 1992.

    The new funding will be used by conservation charity Plantlife, external to extend the nature reserve by 46 acres.

    Greena Moor is home to six "threatened" species of wild plant, and the project aims to reintroduce the lesser butterfly orchid (pictured below), which hasn't been seen in the area for more than a decade.

    A rock climber has been airlifted to hospital after falling about 13ft (4m) near Land's End.

    The woman was reached by two coastguard cliff rescue crew members, before being winched into the coastguard search and rescue helicopter.

    She was then taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro.

    Two lifeboats and an ambulance crew also attended the incident at Carn Barra at about 12:15 this afternoon.

    People in Totnes are calling for something to be done about a landslip which has blocked a popular through-road in the town for the last five weeks.

    In March, a wall collapsed on Maudlin Road, and it has been covered in a huge pile of rubble ever since, making it inaccessible at one end.

    Devon County Highways, external, which is responsible for the road, says it's trying to resolve the situation but it is a 'complex issue' and its lawyers are involved.

    A short film by Torbay-born film maker Danny Cooke has been selected to be shown at film festivals in the United States and Bulgaria.

    ‘Torbay Tattoo Tales’ was screened at the Austin Spotlight Film Festival, external last night, and was also recently nominated in the monthly documentary section of Short to the Point Film Festival, external in Bulgaria.

    The film was commissioned by Torre Abbey Museum, external to promote their current exhibition "Tattoo: British Tattoo Art Revealed".

    The exhibition also featured at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall, external in Falmouth last year.

    A 15% increase in the basic allowance for Devon County councillors has been proposed.

    An independent panel has recommended a rise from the current figure of £10,970 to £12,607.

    Councillors haven't had a rise in their allowances for nine years.

    Councillor Rob Hannaford, leader of the Labour Group, said: "We need a good mix of people from across society that mirrors the communities that we represent and serve, and with the ongoing freeze in allowances, it really feels that our scheme is becoming potentially excluding rather than inclusive, and this should be addressed."

    A waste firm has pleaded guilty following the death of a driver whose runaway lorry crashed into a building at Derriford Hospital.

    Lee Jane, who was 56, died on 8 June 2015 while trying to stop his skip lorry from rolling down a hill.

    Plymouth Crown Court heard how Mr Jane had failed to pull the handbrake on.

    Taunton-based Viridor Waste Management pleaded guilty to failure to conduct a suitable and sufficient risk assessment for the Derriford Hospital collection.

    The firm was cleared of failing to ensure employees safety and of exposing hospital staff to danger.

    In a statement, the company said: "The risk assessment associated with this case could have been more focused and we have taken action to address this."

    A 'memory wall' featuring a tree in stonework has been created at Perranporth boating lake.

    Room for memorial benches had been running out so the wall had been built for people to buy plaques and have them engraved with a memorial or "announcement of any kind", Perranporth Garden Charities said.

    The pilot of a light aircraft that crashed in a field near St Agnes has been taken to hospital after suffering minor injuries.

    He was the only person on board the aircraft when it came down at Sevenmilestone.

    Cornwall Air Ambulance attended the scene, along with fire crews, land ambulance and police.

    A man is being treated in hospital for burns and smoke inhalation after a fire in Exeter, firefighters have said.

    Crews were called to a house in Hadrian Drive at about 12:30.

    Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said the ground floor living room was "90% damaged by smoke and 20% by fire".

    Crews also resuscitated a cat on the property.

    The cause of the fire is unknown, the fire service added.

    Children from a Cornish primary school have been building a hotel fit for bugs in a local playing field.

    Year 4 students from Treleigh Community Primary School in Redruth built the hotel, which boasts more than 100 rooms, at the nearby Treskerby Playing Fields.

    It's one of over 30 sites that are benefiting from the 'Green Infrastructure for Growth' project.

    The £3.5m scheme is being funded by Cornwall Council and European money and aims to improve the ecology of neglected areas on the edges of towns.
