    A man from North Cornwall who faked his uncle's will so he could gain £250,000 has been jailed for five and a half years.

    William Hedley Venning, 55, from Boscastle had been written out of Peter Ascott's will after he separated from his wife.

    However he forged a new one which not only reinstated himself but reduced the inheritance of others including his ex-wife.

    Venning was previously found guilty of a series of charges including fraud and perverting the course of justice.

    Sally Clarke, 57, from Surrey, and Stephen Martin, 52, from Boscastle, who both witnessed the forgery were given suspended sentences, fines and made to carry out 300 hours of unpaid work.

  4. Woman airlifted after Probus accidentpublished at 16:37 British Summer Time 7 June 2018

    A woman has been seriously injured in an accident on the Probus by-pass this afternoon.

    Devon and Cornwall Police say she had to be cut free by fire crews from Truro and St Austell.

    It happened on the A390 by the Tregony turning, shortly after 14:00.

    The fire rescue tender from Tolvaddon was also sent to the accident and the woman has been airlifted to hospital by the Cornwall Air Ambulance.

    The road remains closed and diversions are in place.

    The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Charles and Camilla, have been presented with a tree to be planted in the county and a rare breed of sheep during their visit to the Royal Cornwall Show.

    Their appearance in the main ring of the show was accompanied by music from the Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines, and a Cornish male voce choir sang the Cornish anthem, Trelawny, while the couple did a circuit of the ring in a car before departing.

    They are carrying out a number of appointments while at the show for the day.

    And then you start to notice that some beady eyes are following you around the room a bit.

    But this is understable if you have to spend a lot of time being prepped like the one we have pictured here.

    However, being stared at by a couple of these woolly ones did make me feel a bit sheepish...

    An ex-employee of House of Fraser in Plymouth says it was always a "posh shop" and its closure will mark the end of the city's "class" stores.

    It's one of 31 stores earmarked for closure today - affecting 6,000 jobs as part of a rescue deal.

    Joan, who has lived in Plymouth for most of her life, says she remembers her time working at the store in the 1960s and 1970s very well...

    A sign was put on the doors of House of Fraser in Plymouth this morning telling customers it was to open a "little later than expected".

    The announcement that it is set to close with 30 other stores in the UK was made public at about 08:00.

    It is believed staff were told about the closure before their shifts, with some employees on the ground floor visibly upset.

    Two new state of the art CT scanners have been unveiled, external at hospitals in Cornwall.

    The county's hospitals trust says the number of referrals for CT scans, external at West Cornwall Hospital has steadily increased and, with about 5,500 being carried out each year, there was a need for an improved scanner.

    The new £500,000 machine is replacing a 12-year-old piece of equipment, and is part of a £2m investment in imaging equipment , externalat the hospital. The other scanner is at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Treliske.

    Patients with cancer, heart disease and bone and joint problems will benefit from faster scans and more accurate diagnosis, leading to quicker treatment, health bosses told the BBC.

    A Cornish farmer whose herd is under bovine TB restrictions has been talking about the devastation and heartbreak.

    For many affected farmers it means they will not be able to show their animals at the Royal Cornwall Show because of movement restrictions designed to prevent the spread of the disease.

    John Osborne farms at Jacobstow in north Cornwall, where one of his prized show animals had to be put down after testing positive.

    "It's ruined our show season. We won't be able to show at all this season, until next year now, until we get TB clear."

    Last month the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs confirmed there could be more badger culls in England as the government steps up action to tackle outbreaks of bovine TB in cattle.

    Almost 20,000 badgers were culled in 19 areas in eight counties last year including Cornwall, Devon and Somerset.

    The organisers of a big youth club reunion happening in Exeter, external this weekend have issued an appeal for help.

    They're trying to find a number of photo albums featuring pictures taken at various events at 'The Knight Club', which ran from 1967 to 2014 in Beacon Heath.

    It's unclear what happened to the albums. The reunion is taking place at The Beacon Community Centre from 19:00 on 9 June.
