    Devon Chamber of Commerce says the city centre now needs a "viable" plan to enable it to continue to prosper and move forward.

    A man who was murdered in Teignmouth last weekend has been named as 38-year-old Matthew Jackson, external from Bishopsteignton.

    Police are continuing to investigate after Mr Jackson's body was found on Barnpark Terrace on 3 June.

    Among the many sights at the show is the vintage vehicle rally.

    When it comes to steam rollers, a lot of maintenance is carried out through the day on these mechanical beasts - it’s not just turn up and that’s it!

    As you can see here, the metal polish is out for at least two engines to keep them at their glimmering best.

    The MP for Plymouth, Sutton and Devonport, Luke Pollard says he is "very concerned" to hear about the closure of Plymouth's House of Fraser store.

    It's one of 31 branches shutting its doors.

    Mr Pollard says the department store has been a "key part" of the city centre.

    Plymouth needs a "viable" city centre to ensure it can continue to "provide a retail experience" following the closure of its House of Fraser store - according to the Devon Chamber of Commerce.

    About 250 jobs in the city are believed to be affected as 31 stores close across the country.

    Chief executive of Devon Chamber of Commerce, George Cowcher says it's "incumbent on the council, businesses and the general population to see how we can ensure we have something that is truly viable".

    The proposed closure of House of Fraser in Plymouth will affect about 250 jobs, according to a leading South West business expert.

    Tim Jones from the Devon and Cornwall Business Council says the figure is made up of direct job losses at the store and also the knock-on effect for other adjoining stores - as well as for local firms which supply House of Fraser.

    The branch store in Exeter is not on the list of the 31 proposed closures announced by the company.

  13. Cornwall to ask for government cash to improve A38published at 09:11 British Summer Time 7 June 2018

    Cornwall Council is set to lobby the government to get funding to improve a major road in the county, which has seen a number of serious and fatal accidents in recent weeks.

    Geoff Brown, cabinet member for transport, said that a document called "A38 Case for Action" had been drawn up by the authority with help from the MP for South East Cornwall, Sheryll Murray.

    He said it would be used to lobby the government to ask for help in improving the road, which links Cornwall with Devon.

    The stretch of road has seen a number of serious accidents in recent weeks with some of them fatal.

    On Monday a man was killed after an accident on the A38 at Tideford.

    Campaign group Safe38 says the road now carries 24,800 vehicles a day on average throughout the year.

    A 52-year-old man has been charged with murder after the discovery of a body in Teignmouth at the weekend, police say.

    Emergency services were called to a suspicious death in Barnpark Terrace at about 07:50 on Sunday.

    The man, from Teignmouth is due to appear at Plymouth Magistrates Court later.

    Good morning from the Royal Cornwall Show.

    The gates have not long opened, but people are already coming, and have been greeted by some glimmers of sunshine that many of us weren’t expecting.

    We’ll bring you more of the sights and sounds through the day.

    And if you’re wondering who that is in the BBC shirt in front of me, it’s Radio Cornwall’s Debbie McCrory, who is at the BBC marquee, where you can meet her and more presenters from the station, and from BBC Spotlight.

  19. Cornwall travel: Heavy traffic approaching county showpublished at 08:44 British Summer Time 7 June 2018

    • On the A39 approaching the Royal Cornwall Showground, traffic is very busy in both directions. Northbound, there's slow moving traffic between Indian Queens and Winnards Perch. There are delays southbound between St Kew Highway and Wadebridge.
    • On the A389 from the Bodmin direction there's heavy traffic with delays back to Washaway.
