    This is the moment lifeguards rescued a kite surfer who got into difficulty at Perranporth beach earlier this week.

    They immediately launched the inshore rescue boat after spotting Rory Jenkins struggling in the choppy swell on 12 June.

    The A3079 is closed at Thorndon Cross between Okehampton and Halwill after a lorry left the road.

    Devon and Cornwall Police say the road will be "blocked for some time" while recovery work takes place.

    Drivers are being asked to take alternate routes.

    The granddaughter of a Truro lottery winner has launched an appeal to help those affected by Tuesday's fire in the city.

    Katie Venton owns a local coffee shop and is urging people to make donations of any kind.

    Her grandfather Peter Congdon - who won £13.5m in a lottery rollover in 2015 - says he is supportive of Katie's appeal and will make a donation himself...

    At Kennford, one lane has re-opened on the A38 westbound after a serious crash closed the road between the A380 and the B3344.

    Emergency services are still working at the scene.

    Drivers are being advised to leave extra time for their journeys.

    A Devon father is taking part in an epic 300-mile non-stop cycle challenge across the county, taking in two moors, two coasts and climbing 16,000ft (4,876m) - more than half the height of Everest.

    George Clover's four-year-old son Harrison was diagnosed with Fragile X Syndrome two years ago, and he's raising money for the Fragile X Society,, external which has provided his family with "invaluable support".

    The syndrome is the most common known inherited cause of learning disabilities, affecting about one in 4,000 males and one in 8,000 females.

    Mr Clover and two friends, Chris Gibson and Graham Webber, won't sleep during the challenge, which they're aiming to complete in less than 48 hours, and will only stop for food, drink and toilet breaks.

    A Parade of Sail is under way in Falmouth to mark 50 years since Sir Robin Knox-Johnston set off on the first ever solo non-stop circumnavigation of the globe.

    Sir Robin leads the parade on Suhaili, the boat on which he completed the inaugural Golden Globe Race in 1968.

    He's followed by the 2018 Golden Globe, external entrants and a fleet of historic yachts.

    A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson , externalwith intent following a fire at sheltered housing in Truro.

    Sixty firefighters tackled the blaze at properties on Merrifield Close on Wednesday. No-one was injured.

    Police said the man is in police custody awaiting further questioning.

    He has been speaking ahead of celebrations in Falmouth where he set sail on 14 June 1968 to attempt the record.

    Serial parking offenders in Devon risk having their cars seized under new powers being adopted by the county council.

    Records show about 1,000 drivers have persistently refused to pay their parking tickets since the authority took on parking enforcement responsibilities four years ago.

    Under the new policy, anyone who refuses to pay parking tickets three times will have their vehicle seized and impounded on the fourth offence.

  16. Plymouth tower cladding to be 'replaced in October'published at 09:33 British Summer Time 14 June 2018

    The company which manages three high-rise towers in Plymouth says a plan to replace the cladding on the buildings is expected to be approved next week.

    Plymouth Community Homes says if all goes to plan, improvement works will start in October.

    Last year the material used at Mount Wise was found to be similar to cladding at Grenfell Tower. Residents said they were disappointed the cladding hadn't been replaced.

    Chief executive of Plymouth Community Homes, John Clark, says finding a solution has been "challenging" but they now have one...

    A series of commemorations and vigils is taking place to mark the first anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire.

    Police are appealing for the owners of items found at a property in Devon to come forward.

    Charlotte Green, 24, from Threemilestone, Cornwall, has just returned from Baku in Azerbaijan where she became the world number one in ladies' BMX racing.

    Charlotte lifted the crown in the 17-24 age group final.

    Fire rips through sheltered housing

    It could be up to 12 months before some residents of a sheltered housing complex in Truro, which was severely damaged by fire yesterday, can return to their homes.

    Sixty firefighters took three hours to get the fire under control at Merrifield Close.

    No-one was hurt but some residents lost all their possessions.

    Police are treating the cause as suspicious and are appealing for witnesses.

    We found them [residents] immediate temporary accommodation, and then we'll have to find them more medium-term temporary accommodation - hopefully that will be in the local Truro area. Then it's up to our repair guys to assess the damage to these properties. But what I've heard so far is that it will possibly be six to 12 months."

    There's anger in north Devon over delays to a phone mast being built.

    Much of Lynmouth still has little or no mobile reception even though a site for a mast has been found and planning permission for it given last year.

    North Devon Council, which owns the land, and phone company EE say they are working hard to try and reach an agreement to allow the mast to be built.
