Closed Exeter respite centre to be soldpublished at 16:29 British Summer Time 13 June 2018
16:29 BST 13 June 2018Daniel Clark
Local Democracy Reporting ServiceA closed respite centre in Exeter will be put on the market by Devon County Council.
Haldon View in Beech Avenue has been closed since 2014 and has been declared surplus to requirements.
Devon County Council Leader John Hart told a Corporate Infrastructure and Regulatory Services meeting on Tuesday that he was desperate to dispose of the building as quickly as possible.
He said: "It is in a nice area of Exeter. But the access is not good, it is part of the Pennsylvania conservation area, the treescape means it cannot be developed easily. With a property like this, it makes no sense whatsoever to do anything other than sell it.
"The sooner we put in on the market and sell it, the better for the county council.
The committee was told that the building has a market value of around £650,000 to £700,000 and unanimously granted permission for the site to be put on the market.
