Train operator GWR said it cancelled two trains between Plymouth and Penzance on Sunday - causing it to come under fire on social media - because of a shortage of drivers.
The company tweeted just before 18:00 on Sunday that trains wouldn't be running again until 20:30 because of a staff shortage.
The company did tweet an apology, external for delays, but customers complained about a lack of information and there being little or no alternative transport.
GWR said its 18:25 and 19:42 trains were cancelled, but its "20:25 and following services operated, as did services from Penzance towards Plymouth and London".
It added that rival operator Cross Country "also cancelled a service in between these two as well", adding to difficulties.
Quote MessageWe arranged for ticket acceptance with First Kernow buses enabling customers to travel on local bus services. We also tried to source additional buses but none were available. While we did arrange alternative transport, we know how disruptive this would have been. We would urge those travelling to get in touch as they may be entitled to a refund."
