  7. Services delayed after person hit by trainpublished at 08:23 British Summer Time 28 June 2018

    Police have confirmed that a person has died after being hit by a train at Dawlish.

    The British Transport Police and Devon and Cornwall Police, as well as paramedics, were called just after 06:00.

    The death is currently being treated as unexplained.

    Some rail lines between Exeter St Davids and Newton Abbot have reopened following the complete closure earlier.

    Passengers are being advised to check before travelling as delays and cancellations are likely until the line fully reopens.

    People living in the seaside village of Bantham in Devon will be voting later on whether to adopt a local neighbourhood plan, which includes a restriction on the sale of new homes.

    If the plan gets the green light, housing development will be restricted, with any new homes only available to people with a local connection to live in full time.

  13. Incident at Dawlish: Train disruption 'until 0900'published at 07:28 British Summer Time 28 June 2018

    CrossCountry trains has posted, external: Delays to services between Exeter St Davids and Newton Abbot due to the emergency services dealing with an incident - all lines are blocked.

    Train services running through these stations may be delayed. Disruption is expected until 08:00.

    However National Rail Enquiries, external has posted the disruption is likely to remain until 09:00.

    An extra 'constant supervision cell' one of the suicide prevention measures announced in a urgent action plan for Exeter Prison published by the Prison Service, external.

    Last month the chief inspector of prisons described conditions at the jail as "unequivocally poor" and issued an 'urgent notification' of a need for improvements - only the second time that power had been used.

    Now Justice Secretary David Gauke says extra money and resources will be used to improve the prison including the refurbish of cells and steps taken to stop the flow of drugs.
