    A rare gold coin is expected to fetch a whopping £250,000 when it goes under the hammer in Epping today.

    The Queen Anne "Vigo" five guinea is said to be one of only 20 made, and was cast from gold seized from a Spanish treasure ship by the British in 1702. 

    The auction, at Boningtons, begins at 11:00 this morning. We'll keep you updated with the result.

    Supergrass frontman Gaz Coombes has described the "real honour" he felt performing at Nick Alexander's memorial gig in London last night.

    Hundreds of music lovers came together to celebrate the 35-year-old's life at the Shepherd's Bush Empire in a concert organised by Mr Alexander's family. 

    "It was important for me to be here," Coombes said.

    "I'm humbled to be a part of it, we can all be together in one space, enjoying music that Nick loved."

    Police are warning motorists to avoid the A127 this morning after a crash involving three lorries on the Southend-bound carriageway.

    It happened just before 02:10 this morning between the M25 junction and the Half Way House. 

    Three people were taken to hospital for treatment to injuries which were described as non-serious. 

    Essex Police says the road will remain closed while damage to the carriageway and live power cables are repaired.

    The day will start grey with glimmers of bright spells amongst the patchy rain.

    Nick Alexander's sister, Zoe, who organised last night's "A Peaceful Noise" gig in memory of her brother, said he wasn't one for fuss, but would have loved the night itself.

    The 35-year-old was selling band merchandise at the Bataclan Theatre in Paris when three heavily armed gunmen stormed the building and killed 90 people, including Nick, inside. 

    Speaking before the gig at Shepherd's Bush Empire, Zoe told BBC Essex: "This was one of his favourite venues.

    "He worked here many times, so it's really special to have it here and have all his friends playing - so what's not to like?"

    A memorial concert is taking place this evening for the only British victim of the Paris terror attacks.

    Nick Alexander, 35, from Weeley, near Clacton, was shot dead last year at the Bataclan Theatre. 

    The gig at Shepherd's Bush Empire features some big names in the music industry, including Gaz Coombes of Supergrass and Fran Healy from Travis.

    Maximo Park, who are also performing tonight, tweeted, external that the event was going to be a "special night".

    Earlier today we told you that a friend of Jack Atkinson, who died after a cardiac arrest while playing football, was trying to organise a minute's applause for his 18-year-old friend at the Tottenham v West Ham match on Saturday. 

    We contacted the press team at Spurs, the team Jack supported, and they told us they were "aware of this" and had been in touch with Jack's family.

  14. Chelmsford prison officers continue strike despite High Court orderpublished at 15:58 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2016

    Some prison officers are continuing to protest outside Chelmsford jail this evening, despite a High Court injunction against the action. 

    Up to 10,000 prison officers in England and Wales stopped work over claims of a "surge in violence" in jails.

    A Ministry of Justice spokesman said there was no justification for the action.

  15. Colchester flat fire death: Woman denies murder and arsonpublished at 15:52 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2016

    A woman has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and arson with intent to endanger life after an elderly man died in a flat fire.

    Fred Payne, 78, died after breathing in smoke during the fire in Rochdale Way, Colchester, in September.

    Lisa Connelly, 42, appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court where she denied the charges against her.

    A trial date has been scheduled for 27 February.

    An 18-year-old amateur footballer who had a cardiac arrest during a game on Sunday died doing "what he loved", his parents have told the BBC.

    Jack Atkinson was playing for Holland FC in Clacton when he collapsed on the pitch. He later died in hospital. 

    Clare Ling and Murf Atkinson said their son didn't have a "bad bone in his body"...
