    Police have today released CCTV of a man they want to speak to following a stabbing in Southend. 

    A 27-year-old man was sitting in a car outside the Olde Trout Tavern in Gordon Road at about 20:45 on 21 October when he was approached by four men and stabbed through the window. 

    The victim, who is from Liverpool, needed stitches for his wound.

    Delays on the Essex stretch of the M25 will continue as a lane remains closed near Thurrock, Highways England, external warns.

    The lane is shut on the anti-clockwise carriageway because of damage to a bridge barrier, after a crash involving a lorry and a van in the early hours of this morning.

    A temporary concrete barrier is being installed this evening allowing the road to fully reopen by tomorrow morning's rush-hour.

    Snooker legend and Chigwell's own Ronnie O’Sullivan has spoken to BBC Radio 5 live this morning about how he grew up when his parents were in jail, and how he managed to succeed despite the circumstances.

    Both of O'Sullivan's parents served time in prison - his father, Ronnie Snr, was convicted of murder while his mother, Maria, was jailed for tax evasion, leaving him to take care of his sister.   

    He said: “It’s a hard thing to say, but you have to cut off. The moment I started being a little more selfish I started to feel the pressure releasing from me.”

    Court cases across Essex have had to be put on hold today as some prison officers take part in a national protests over health and safety fears.

    Jail staff are used to transfer prisoners on remand to court, but as prisoners officers walk out, some hearings due to take place today in the county have had to be postponed. 

    It has not yet been revealed how many court cases have come to a standstill because of the action.

    The chairman of Holland FC has released this statement, after 18-year-old Jack Atkinson, who played for the club, died after suffering a cardiac arrest on the pitch at the weekend:

Jack was a gentle giant with a great sense of humour and popular with all people who had the privilege to know Jack. Jack was a great friend honest and loyal and respected by his peers.     Tottenham and West Ham fans are being asked to come together to remember an 18-year-old Spurs fan who died while playing football in Clacton on Sunday.

    Jack Atkinson (pictured left) suffered a cardiac arrest during a tournament with Holland FC. He was flown to hospital, but later died.

    His friend, Tyler Rose (pictured right), told me today that Jack was so "caring, kind and relaxed" and wanted honour the "huge loss" of his friend in some way. 

    So far, Tyler's request for a round of applause at Saturday's game between Tottenham and West Ham on the 18th minute has had over 600 retweets on Twitter, external.

    I'm outside HMP Chelmsford as about 40 staff here take part in a national "strike" over health and safety concerns.

    The Prison Officers Association said up to 10,000 members would take part in the day of protest, despite officers technically being banned from going on strike.

    The Ministry of Justice described the action as unjustified and "unlawful".

    One officer at the jail told BBC Essex: "Over the last three years, because of the cutbacks of staff, there has been an increase in violence and self-harm."

    Two illustrators and writers from Anglia Ruskin University have made The New York Times top 10.

    Little Red (pictured below) by Bethan Woollvin and The Polar Bear by Jenni Desmond have made it onto the newspaper's 10 Best Illustrated Children's Books of 2016, external list.

    Bethan (pictured below), 22, who grew up in South Woodham Ferrers in Essex, graduated from Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, last year with a First Class BA (Hons) Illustration, external degree.

    In 2014 her initial illustrations for Little Red helped her win the national Macmillan Prize for Illustration, and the rights for the book were subsequently snapped up by publishing giants Pan Macmillan.

    Meanwhile, Jenni Desmond, from Hackney, graduated from the MA in Children's Book Illustration, external in 2011.

    Bethan Woollvin said: "It's such wonderful news and it means so much for my career in illustration.

    "Little Red has come so far since it started as just a small idea while I was studying at the Cambridge School of Art, and I really owe that all to my fabulous lecturers."

    Tributes have been pouring in overnight to a teenager who died after suffering a cardiac arrest while playing football in Clacton-on-Sea on Sunday.

    Jack Atkinson, 18, was playing for Holland FC in Dulwich Road when he collapsed at about 10:00. 

    He was taken to hospital by air ambulance, but died later. 

    Members of the footballing community have since been paying tribute to the teenager.

    Chelmsford City FC tweeted, external: "Our thoughts go to the family of 18 year-old @MightyHolland, external player Jack Atkinson who died following a cardiac arrest at the weekend."

    FC Clacton wrote, external: "The thoughts and prayers of all at FC Clacton are with the family, friends and teammates of Jack Atkinson at this sad time. Rest in peace."

    Stanway Rovers said, external: "Our prays and thoughts are today with @MightyHolland, external friends and family of Jack Atkinson. Truly devastating news to hear."

    An 18-year-old man has died after collapsing with a cardiac arrest at a Holland Football Club match.

    An ambulance was called just after 10:00 yesterday to the Dulwich Road ground in Clacton.

    Jack Atkinson was taken by air ambulance to hospital but later died.
