    Festival-goers are being warned about a significant rise in the number of measles cases being reported this year - a four-fold increase so far.

    Hotels, B&Bs, restaurants, bars, cafes and visitor attractions are being urged to play their part in drawing up Worcester’s five-year tourism strategy.

    The city council, external said the new strategy, being prepared by the authority, will aim to "bring a major boost to Worcester’s success as a tourism destination".

    The number of visitors to the city has increased by 39.8% since 2000, it added. 

    Businesses are being urged to fill in a council survey to help build up a detailed current picture of tourism in Worcester.

    The judge overseeing Led Zeppelin's Stairway To Heaven copyright trial has rejected the group's attempts to recoup almost $800,000 (£620,000) in costs.

    While the rock legends, including Kidderminster's Robert Plant, were found not guilty of plagiarising Spirit's song Taurus in June, Judge R Gary Klausner said the case was not frivolous.

    He ruled there was no evidence that the estate of Spirit guitarist Randy Wolfe "harboured nefarious motives", so the estate was not obliged to repay the band's legal fees.

    The line between Worcester Shrub Hill and Droitwich Spa will be closed for the last of four days tomorrow.

    A coroner has recorded a verdict of accidental death after a Worcester teenager fell into a lock near Perdiswell.

    Sean Stevens, 17, was shadow boxing with friends near to the canal's edge at Bilford Road when he was accidentally hit by one of them and fell backwards into the water. 

    Giving his verdict, Worcestershire coroner, Geraint Williams, said the friends involved will be "scarred for life" by the drowning on 31 March.

    Here's the least surprising news of the day - the former Deputy Chief Constable of West Mercia, Anthony Bangham, has been confirmed as the new Chief Constable, as expected.

    A report on men’s suicide, produced by a University of Worcester, external psychologist, is to feature in a national documentary in Australia.

    Dr Peter Forster (pictured above) said men in Australia, as in the UK, are four times more likely to die by suicide than women.

    His study, picked up by Australia’s ABC network, revealed the suicide rate for Aboriginal men was four times higher than for all other Australians, due to issues like marginalisation, the university said.

    A man cutting the grass was trapped for about half an hour underneath a ride-on mower that had rolled down an embankment, external, the ambulance service say.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service say the alarm was raised at about 14:35 yesterday after the man in his 50s was found at Titley station to the south of Titley in Herefordshire.  

    He was trapped at the bottom of a 15ft (4.5m) embankment. He was airlifted to Hereford County Hospital with injuries to his legs and back.
