  2. Redditch man kills himself hours after being discharged as 'low risk'published at 13:43 British Summer Time 8 August 2016

    An inquest has found that a man from Redditch was discharged from hospital just hours before he took his own life.

    Christopher Srebniak's family had taken him to see his GP and to A&E at the Alexandra hospital after he suffered from a mental breakdown.

    However, he was assessed by a doctor as being at low risk of suicide and sent home in the early hours of the morning. 

    Just a few hours after that diagnosis, the 53-year-old took his own life in his living room.

    We're awaiting a response from the NHS trust that runs the hospital.

    - A horror movie written and produced in North Worcestershire has won an US film award. 

  6. Football: Weekend Rounduppublished at 12:48 British Summer Time 8 August 2016

    Two goals from Lee Hughes helped Worcester City to a 2-2 draw at home to Harrogate Town in their opening match of the season at the Victoria Ground. 

    City twice led in the game, but the Yorkshire club came up with a late goal to ensure they went home with a point.

    Meanwhile, Kidderminster Harriers opened their Vanarama North season in fine style on Saturday when they were 6-1 winners at Curzon Ashton. 

    Harriers had the game won by half-time when they led 5-0.

  8. Rise in number of parents fined for term time holidayspublished at 12:08 British Summer Time 8 August 2016

    The number of parents in Herefordshire and Worcestershire fined for taking their children on holiday in term time has risen significantly since last September. 

    Fines totalling almost £55,000 were issued in the last school year across both counties.

    Parents face either a £60 penalty fine or in the most serious cases a criminal conviction. 

    However, campaigner and founder of Parents Want A Say Craig Langman says the rise proves the rule is a waste of time.

  10. Police continue investigations into allegations of fox cubs killingspublished at 11:36 British Summer Time 8 August 2016

    West Mercia Police are continuing to investigate allegations that fox cubs were killed at the kennels of the South Herefordshire Hunt at Wormelow.

    A 37-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman from Hereford and a 37-year-old man from Abergavenny have had their bail extended until next month. 

    They have been arrested by police on suspicion of animal cruelty - no charges have yet been brought against them.

    The chance to live on an island could be closer to home than you think when a unique property in Worcestershire goes on sale next month.

    Osier Island, which is next to the River Avon near Pershore, is expected to generate a lot of interest from bidders having been featured in the property section of a number of national newspapers.

  14. Zombie horror movie wins USA film awardpublished at 09:33 British Summer Time 8 August 2016

    A zombie film written and produced in north Worcestershire using local actors has just won a USA film award. 

    The Snarling scooped Best Horror at Gen Con in Indianapolis.

    The film is now getting interest from as far as Australia. 

    The writer, Pablo Raybould, from Redditch, hopes it will put the West Midlands back on the UK film map. 

  15. Stevens helps Kent to win over Worcestershirepublished at 09:18 British Summer Time 8 August 2016

    Worcestershire's promotion chances took a hit at the weekend, as they went down to a 10-wicket defeat at Kent.

    After resuming on 213-6 in their second innings, still trailing Kent by 27 runs, the visitors added seven before Matt Coles removed Ben Cox (39).

    Darren Stevens (3-31) then cleaned up the tail as Worcestershire were all out for 251, leaving Kent 12 runs to win.

  17. Travel: Slow on A449 and A4440published at 08:38 British Summer Time 8 August 2016

    There aren't too many reported problems on the roads this morning. 

    Having said that, traffic is queuing on the A449 in Worcester at M5 J6 / Warndon Way. It's slow on all approaches to the roundabout

    The are also delays on the A4440 at Broomhall between the A38 and A44, in the roadworks area.
