  1. Memorial gets special statuspublished at 12:42 Greenwich Mean Time 11 November 2016

    A memorial in Herefordshire is one of 50 across the country to receive listed status, Historic England, external has announced. 

    The Upper Hill War Memorial in Village Green, Upper Hill, has been recognised for its historic and architectural interest. 

    It is now Grade II listed.

    The announcement comes after Historic England invited members of the public to nominate sites for the special protection.

  2. Meeting over children's centres cutspublished at 12:34 Greenwich Mean Time 11 November 2016

    Campaigners will hold a public meeting tomorrow about Worcestershire County Council's plans to make cuts to children's centres in the county. 

    Councillors have approved plans to transfer the running of many centres to schools.

    The Orchard and Spring Vale Centre in Evesham is closing at the end of the month.

    Worcester Warriors have bolstered their options in the second-row by signing former South Africa Under-20 lock Wilhelm van der Sluyson a trial basis.

    The 25-year-old came through the youth system at Western Province and goes straight into the set-up at Sixways.

    Darren Barry and Donncha O’Callaghan are the only fit senior second-rowers available to Warriors with Will Spencer, Tevita Cavubati and Christian Scotland-Willamson all currently injured.

  5. Bomarche pledges to sell poppies next yearpublished at 11:43 Greenwich Mean Time 11 November 2016

    A clothes chain criticised for not selling poppies at its Kidderminster branch has said it will sell them next year. 

    Bonmarche was recently described by town councillor Michael Wrench as "shameful" for not supporting the appeal in its stores - including the one in the Rowland Hill Centre.

    At the time, it said it was focusing on the Macmillan Cancer Support charity instead.

    In a statement, the chain said it had made the decision to sell poppies next year in response to customer feedback.

  7. Bromsgrove cyclist targets World Cup goldpublished at 10:40 Greenwich Mean Time 11 November 2016

    Bromsgrove cyclist Emily Kay will attempt to win a World Cup gold medal today for the second weekend in a row. 

    The 21-year-old starred for Great Britain with victory in both the omnium and the team pursuit in Glasgow last weekend. 

    Now Kay will contest the omnium in the second round of the World Cup in Holland later today.

    A number of remembrance services are taking place across Herefordshire and Worcestershire this morning to mark Armistice Day.

    Worcestershire County Council is holding a short service outside the council chamber at county hall from 10:50.

    Events are also taking place at The Hive in Worcester.

  9. Sleeping driver jailed for road deathpublished at 10:07 Greenwich Mean Time 11 November 2016

    A woman who killed a man and injured his fiancée after falling asleep at the wheel has been jailed.

    Shirley Glover's Volvo crossed onto the wrong side of the A450 carriageway near Shenstone and hit Stuart Frost's MG3.

    He was pronounced dead at the scene while his partner Emma Lunn suffered multiple injuries.

    Glover, 50, from Stourport-on-Severn, admitted causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving when she appeared at Hereford Crown Court.

    There's a warning more needs to be done to protect vets from being injured at work. More than half of farm vets have been hurt doing their job - with some so seriously injured by the animals they're treating - they've quit the profession. 

    Sophie Aylett, a vet in Bromsgrove, spent £30,000 making her practice safer. She said some of her colleagues had been kicked in the head by animals, or had limbs broken.

    The latest figures from the British Veterinary Association reveal more then half of farm vets were injured last year.
