  2. Bed blocking rising in Worcestershire hospitalspublished at 17:20 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2016

    The trust running hospitals in Worcestershire is among seven singled out in a new report for having a particularly high rate of "bed blocking".

    The figures, from NHS England, external, show the number of days where a patient had their hospital discharge delayed because there were no services available in the community to care for them.

    Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust had patients delayed on a total of 1,145 days in September, compared with 778 days in the same month the previous year.

    A gang of four men, armed with what police believe were baseball bats, have forced their way into a house in Worcester and stolen jewellery, external.

    West Mercia Police say the robbery happened at a house on Stanley Road at around 17:45 on 4 November.

    A man and a woman in their late 60s received minor injuries, a spokesman said.

    A Worcestershire woman is travelling to the Sahara desert this morning to take on a 100km (62 mile) charity trek. 

    Rachel Green, from Kidderminster, is hoping to raise £2,500 for the HoneyRose Foundation, external, which granted a wish for her dying grandmother.

    Plans to cut back the trees and undergrowth around a lake island in Sanders Park, Bromsgrove, have been announced by the district council.

    The trees will be trimmed back and then grown upwards to reduce the branch spread over the water. 

    Some of the chippings and logs may be left on the island to encourage wildlife habitats.

    Four men have been arrested for immigration offences after they were found walking near the M42 in north Worcestershire, police say.

    West Mercia Police say the men, aged 29, 38, 49 and 55, were seen walking toward the M42 from the A441, near Alvechurch at 09:50 yesterday.

    Chief Constable Anthony Bangham told a meeting of Worcestershire County Council the men were believed to have been trafficked into the country in the back of a lorry.

    A charity which supports women in Herefordshire in abusive relationships says it is facing huge budget cuts. 

     West Mercia Women's Aid, external runs a 24-hour helpline, three refuge centres and an outreach service across three counties.

    The charity says it is worried about the outcome of a consultation by Herefordshire Council on the funding it puts into the charity.
