    Congratulations to Worcester Valkyries, external' Rochelle Clark on winning her 114th England cap in the 10-5 victory over France at Twickenham last night.  

    That puts her level with the legendary Jason Leonard as England's most capped player.

  2. Slide in pound hits profits of Redditch-based retail giantpublished at 10:38 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2016

    The slide in sterling has taken a chunk out of Halfords profits.

    The car parts and cycling group, which is based in Redditch, reported a 15.7% fall in profits to £39.1m after taking a £6m hit on the depreciation of sterling.

    Halfords said it had "developed initiatives" to protect income and "remain confident in the underlying performance of the group".

    However, investors were less convinced and sent Halfords' shares down 3.4% to 331.8p in morning trading.

  3. Veteran of key WW2 naval battle at film showingpublished at 10:22 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2016

    A veteran from a key naval battle of WW2 will be the guest of honour at the screening of a film about the destruction of the German pocket battleship Graf Spee.

    Jim London, from Claines in Worcester, was a Royal Navy sailor aboard HMS Exeter, one of the British ships that took part in the battle.

    The film, called We Did Our Bit, will be screened at 10:00 in The Hive in Worcester as part of the Armistice Day commemorations tomorrow.

    A display of 400 crosses, to represent the 4,000 Herefordians who died in the two World Wars, opens at Hereford Cathedral today.

    Remembrance crosses

    The display has been organised by the Royal British Legion as part of the commemorations for Remembrance Sunday.

    Anyone is welcome to plant a cross to commemorate a loved one who's died in combat.

    Pudsey Bear visited pupils at St Mary's primary school in Kidderminster ahead of BBC Children in Need.

    Children there have raised £482 for charity by dressing as pirates.

    A man who carried out raids on two betting shops is today starting a 16-year jail sentence.

    Leroy Morley stole £415 from William Hill in Redditch on 18 April, West Mercia Police said, external.

    The 41-year-old, formerly of Salters Lane, Redditch, also stole £450 from Coral bookmakers in Shakespeare Avenue, Redditch

    He was jailed at Worcester Crown Court yesterday.

  16. Army put on stand-by for winter floodspublished at 17:37 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2016

    More than 1,000 UK troops have been put on 24-hour stand-by to help in the event of flooding this winter.

    The government says it is also investing £12.5m in new temporary flood defences for its "most comprehensive winter plan yet".

    January saw flood warnings issued across Worcestershire and Herefordshire. Recent years have seen hundreds of troops deployed to help tackle the effects of flooding in Worcester.

    The latest news from the government follows a review of the handling of the problems caused by Storm Desmond in parts of the UK late last year.
