    Drivers using the M5 in Worcestershire could face more speeding tickets when it becomes a "smart motorway". 

    More than 1,000 motorists a week are being caught speeding on the UK's smart motorways, police figures suggest.

    Last year, 52,516 fixed penalties were issued on 11 smart sections, including on stretches of the M1, M25 and M6.

    This compared to 2,023 on the same stretches in 2010-11, before they were upgraded to smart motorways.

    These use the hard shoulder and variable speed limits to control traffic flow.

    British banker Rurik Jutting, who went to school in Worcestershire, has been found guilty of murdering two Indonesian women in Hong Kong, in a case that has gripped the city.

    A jury took around four hours to find an expressionless Jutting, who denied murder by admitted manslaughter, guilty on both counts.

    The mutilated bodies of Sumarti Ningsih and Seneng Mujiasih were found in Jutting's apartment in November 2014.

    The Worcester Valkyries tighthead prop, Laura Keates, will start for England Women against France this Wednesday in the opening match of the Old Mutual Wealth Series at the Twickenham Stoop.

    Fellow Valkyries Rochelle Clark and Ceri Large are also in the squad among the replacements for the match. 

    If Clark comes off the bench, she'll gain her 114th cap and equal the England record set by Jason Leonard in 2004.

  11. Paramedics: Rise in attacks on staff fuelled by substances formerly called 'legal highs'published at 17:17 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2016

    There's been an "explosion" in parts of the Midlands in the number of people who've taken substances which used to be called legal highs.

    Police forces are saying there's increasing use, and that, according to West Midlands Ambulance Service, is leading to more attacks on paramedics trying to help those under the influence.

    But many of the traditional methods to treat users don't work because crews don't always know what's in the substances.

    Worcestershire's highways team is promising the county's primary routes will be gritted again tonight, external, as temperatures are forecast to fall below zero for the second day in a row. 

    The Met Office has predicted road surface temperatures could fall as low as -4C (25F) in places, say the county council.

    A man who failed to appear at court is being sought by West Mercia Police.

    Lewis Maloney, 21, of no fixed address, was charged with assault and criminal damage , externalfollowing an incident in Redditch in April, police say.

    He failed to appear at Redditch Magistrates Court on 10 August.

    Anybody with any information about his whereabouts is asked to contact West Mercia Police. 

  16. Bromsgrove station re-opens ahead of schedulepublished at 16:19 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2016

    A £100m upgrade, external to the track and signalling at Bromsgrove has been completed early, enabling the station and line to re-open ahead of schedule. 

    The scheme reconfigured the track, points and crossings in the area around the station, in preparation for electrification from Birmingham to Bromsgrove. 

    This will increase the number of trains serving the town from December 2017.

    Sir Cliff Richard is coming to play a gig in Herefordshire next year. 

    The UK's most successful hit-maker will play at Eastnor Castle in June on the opening night of his tour around some of England's historic sites. 

    Tickets will go on general sale next Monday.

    A Malvern auctioneer, who sold a pair of lilac knickers that once belonged to Hitler's wife, has described Eva Braun as "a very important person historically".

    Also going under the hammer of auctioneer Phillip Sorrell was her lipstick in a silver holder and a locket. 

    The briefs fetched nearly £3,000, much more than the expected price of around £400.
