  1. Funding windfall for Herefordshire Councilpublished at 13:44 Greenwich Mean Time 20 December 2016

    More than £285,000 to help provide housing for people with learning disabilities is being given to Herefordshire Council. 

    It will spend the money on building a state-of-the-art block of flats in Hereford.

    The council aims to have the complex, fitted with new technologies to help support the adults living there, finished by 2018. 

    Last September, the Department of Health announced that there was a £25m funding pot available and councils across England were asked to bid for a portion of the money.

  5. Clothing stolen from store in ram raidpublished at 12:18 Greenwich Mean Time 20 December 2016

    Thieves have used a vehicle, thought to be a red Land Rover, to smash their way into a store near Evesham and steal clothing, external, police say.

    West Mercia Police say the theft took place at Outdoor and Country in The Valley retail park, Twyford, at around 02:05 on Monday.

    A quantity of clothing, including Barbour jackets, was taken during the break in.

    Police say a stolen vehicle was found burnt out in Harvington a short distance away, which may be linked to the raid.

    People visiting Malvern today might get a bit of a surprise, as 600 angels are being placed at landmarks across the town. 

    Around 350 knitted white angels will be placed in the town centre, 150 in Malvern Link and 100 in Barnard's Green. 

    They were created as part of the 150th anniversary celebrations of the Landsdown Methodist church and as a way of spreading Christmas cheer to the local community.

  8. Worcestershire could get two new train stations under planspublished at 10:40 Greenwich Mean Time 20 December 2016

    A consultation will launch this week on the future of transport in Worcestershire, with the possibility of two new train stations coming to the county.

    One station is possible in the Fernhill Heath area (site of old station pictured above), and another one in Rushwick. 

    The proposals are part of the Local Transport Plan, which also aims to review major traffic junctions and look at increasing capacity on the county's busiest roads.

    A group of army reservists skiing across the South Pole say they've hit a new milestone.   

    The team are on day 34 of the expedition and have now crossed 88 degrees south. 

    In his latest blog post, external, Lou commented about the temperature changes, saying "you can really feel the difference" - recent temperatures stand at -35C with the wind.

    The team are raising funds for sold ABF The Soldiers Charity, in memory of former Herefordshire soldier Henry Worsley, who died whilst attempting the same route in January.

    A Hereford woman is due to be sentenced this morning after pleading guilty to causing the death of a man by careless driving. 

    Dawn Jones, 41, from St Andrews Close, has admitted causing the death of George Leslie Jones, who was 58, and a doorman at several nightclubs in the city. 

    The fatal collision took place on the A49 in Moreton-on-Lugg in December 2014.

    A new cycling performance centre announced for Evesham will have a "serious benefit" for bikers in the area, according to a local club.

    Manufacturers Boardman Bikes, founded by the Olympic gold medallist Chris Boardman, is investing in an 18,000 sq ft (1672 sq m) headquarters in the town's business park.

    The chairman of Evesham Wheelers, Steve Bullen, says it makes Evesham a centre of excellence.

    A trial in Worcestershire that is helping to prevent older people feeling lonely could be adopted nationwide.

    Age UK, external says about 70,000 older people in the West Midlands suffer from loneliness. 

    The scheme, called Reconnections, is providing one-to-one support for isolated pensioners and getting them involved in community activities.
