    There's been a new arrival at West Midland Safari Park - a baby giraffe.

    The Rothschild?s giraffe is the third baby born there in the last six months and was born on Valentines day.

    The six-foot-tall male giraffe will join Embu and Emali, who were born in August and September last year. 

  2. Council 'advised to not sell all tenant farms'published at 15:38 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2017

    A previously secret report which advises Herefordshire Council against selling off all of its tenant farms has been revealed - just days before families are forced to leave their homes.

    The Information Commissioner's Office ordered the council to reveal a report which they commissioned from independent experts. It advises keeping some businesses to give new farmers the chance to enter the industry. 

    Instead, in December 2015 the council's cabinet agreed to sell off all of the farms leaving 43 families having to find new jobs and new homes.

    But the council told us that it did not use the report as it was never finished.

    "The initial draft Fisher German report was incomplete and never finalised.

    "The report was therefore not relied upon by the council in any decision taking".

    The smallholdings disposal plan that the council has adopted "will ensure best value for money for taxpayers", the spokesperson said.

  3. Two arrests after burglary in Rednalpublished at 15:11 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2017

    Two men have been arrested after a burglary in Rednal. 

    It happened around 17:50 on 14 February at a property on Kendal End Road.  

    Two 19-year-olds from Birmingham were arrested on suspicion of burglary and unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.

    One of them was also arrested on suspicion of drug driving. 

    They are both in police custody.

    We told you earlier that a conference is being held at the University of Lincoln for academics interested in The Archers. 

    What you may not have realised is that this move could be a decisive blow in a war that has raged in the fandom of the Radio 4 drama for years!

    Everyone knows that the Archers is set in the fictional village of Ambridge but did you know that the inspiration behind it could be Rippingale in the south of the county and that this could be the real-life Bull pub?

    This is hotly disputed by the village of Inkberrow in Worcestershire, who claim that it's their village that provided the muse for series creator Godfrey Baseley.

    Mr Baseley never said which one it was but I haven't heard about any Archers conferences in Worcestershire.... 

    Sounds like a resounding victory in the Battle of Ambridge for Lincolnshire!

    The government says it is currently considering whether to fund the planned new university in Hereford. 

    Jo Johnson, the Minister of State for the Department for Education has responded to a question from Bill Wiggin, the MP for North Herefordshire. 

    The University aims to specialise in technology, defence and engineering.

    A number of patients were diverted from the Worcestershire Royal to the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch this morning because there weren't enough beds.

    An "entrepreneurial" seven-year-old from Hereford, who wrote to the CEO of Google asking for a job, got a reply from him telling her to keep "following your dreams". 

    After discussing her father's work, Chloe Bridgwater decided she would like to work for Google and penned a letter beginning "dear Google boss".

    It was only the schoolgirl's second letter, after her first missive to Father Christmas, but the search engine's CEO Sundar Pichai wrote back. 

    Her father Andy said the girl "took it all in her stride". 

    The inspiration for Chloe's letter had been internet research showing Google's offices including bean bags, go karts and slides but she also highlighted a keen interest in computers in her application.

    Time now stands still at a church in Worcestershire after the clock winder was told he shouldn't change it due to health and safety concerns. 

    The congregation at St Philip and St James Church in Hallow, external say they were told by the Parochial Church Council that they need to stop doing it because it was too dangerous.

    It involved climbing a ladder and holding on to the church bell ropes for balance. 

    Reverend Robert Latham says they hope to get a new automated system installed in the next few months.

    The family of a young Herefordshire woman killed on the A44 have told BBC Hereford and Worcester they think her death was caused by a substandard road service.

    Amethyst Young died in May 2015 and her family have now turned to crowd funding to raise almost £400 to buy the police investigation report so they can consider taking legal action against Herefordshire Council.

    Herefordshire Council have told BBC Hereford and Worcester they won't be commenting.

    A bird keeper believes he may have the answer to reducing Worcester's gull population.

    Dale Atkinson works for J G Environmental, and has been in the city this week using his birds of prey to frighten seagulls away from buildings owned by the University of Worcester.

    The city council says while it's considered the idea, it believes it would be more effective for a specific site, rather than a large area like a city.

    Worcestershire Acute Hospitals has got a new temporary boss as it faces just weeks to make big improvements.

    It has been in special measures since 2015 and last month was told by watchdog the Care Quality Commission it expected improvements by 10 March.

    Richard Beeken takes on the role of interim chief executive until new boss Michelle McKay starts next month.

    There are delays to trains between Hereford and Worcester Foregate Street due to problems at a level crossing.

    London Midland said a fault on the barriers meant trains were having to run at reduced speeds.

    Band new netball Superleague team Severn Stars has had its official launch.

    It’s a joint venture between the University of Gloucestershire and the University of Worcester.

    Former Australian Diamonds player Mo'onia Gerrard is the head coach and former England captain Panela Cookey is the Director of Netball.

    There’s plenty of overseas experience among the squad, as well as local talent like Lauren Brooks from Brockworth and Rachel Sweet from Bromsgrove in Worcestershire. 

    Their first match is on Saturday against reigning Superleague champions Surrey Storm.
