  2. Pair praised for 'saving' collapsed manpublished at 14:15 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2017

    Two members of the public have praised by police for their actions in saving the life of a man who collapsed in Hereford in December.

    Heather Smith and Alan Wood, both from Leominster, quickly administered chest compressions and CPR until paramedics arrived and the man was taken to hospital.

    It is believed he survived because of them, West Mercia Police said.

    They were both awarded High Sheriff's Awards, by the High Sheriff of Herefordshire, Bill Jackson, last Thursday.

  3. Entertainer fundraising for sick partnerpublished at 13:28 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2017

    A former entertainer in Stourport area, Maurice Almey, has published his memoir, sold the boat he lived on and his car, to raise funds for life-changing treatment in Russia for his partner of 40 years.

    Max Jerrison suffered a brain injury in 2013 which has left him partially paralysed and unable to speak. 

    Maurice wants to take him to Moscow for stem cell treatment, because it is not available on the NHS.

    He's so far raised £20,000 but needs to raise the same amount again to fund the trip.  

  4. Officer honoured for 'life-saving' workpublished at 12:14 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2017

    A police officer has been commended for saving the life of a 60-year-old man.  

    PC Kimberley Morris treated the man, who had suffered severe neck injury, in Hereford and then spent eight hours in hospital with him.

    The chief constable of West Mercia Police, Anthony Bangham, presented her with a Royal Humane Society award on Thursday, at Hereford Town Hall.

    Stephen Woolley has been missing for 10 weeks - his car was found at Holt Fleet, near Worcester.

    Weekly bin collections could soon be scrapped in Malvern, with councillors saying they need to save about £250,000.

    Malvern Hills District Council needs to make the savings from its waste collection service by 2020 so they are looking at plans to alternate collections for recycling and rubbish.

  13. Drugs and alcohol helpline sees rise in callspublished at 17:52 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2017

    The NSPCC's helpline has seen a rise in the number of people in the West Midlands reporting drug and alcohol use around children over the last three years. 

    Heroin

     A total of 950 people from the region contacted the charity last year to describe potential substance misuse amongst adults when children and young people were in their care or nearby. 

     The charity says substance misuse is a significant risk for children and often leads to neglect and abuse. 

  14. Bell-ringer rescue: 'We carry out training exercises in the cathedral'published at 17:44 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2017

    Rescuers who lowered an injured bell-ringer 80ft down to safety have revealed they'd practised the rescue many times before in Worcester Cathedral. 

    Ian Bowman, 51, from Devon broke a vertebrae during evensong on Saturday after his foot became caught in a rope and he was dragged upside down several feet into the air
