  5. Post-mortem to take place on body found in Worcester canalpublished at 17:42 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2017

    Police say they are treating the death of a man whose body was found in a canal in Worcester this morning as unexplained. 

    Emergency services were sent to Spring Lane at around 07:30 after a passer-by saw a body in the water.

    A post-mortem is taking place tomorrow and West Mercia Police, external  is asking anyone who saw anything suspicious to contact the force.

  7. Watch: Worcestershire pigeons help monitor levels of pollution published at 17:24 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2017

    Racing pigeons that are kept on a farm in south Worcestershire have been recruited by scientists from the University of Birmingham to help measure levels of pollution.

    Tiny sensors are attached to the birds to collect pollution data.

    Karen Morris, 33, a former farm worker from Hereford, was transferred to HMP Foston Hall in Derbyshire on 9 October 2014, and died at Royal Derby Hospital on 10 January 2015.

    A post-mortem found the cause of death of as Tramadol drug toxicity.

    The inquest opened at Derby Coroner's Court on Monday, and is set to run for more than a week.

  11. Man comes forward over 'rugby tackle' on trainpublished at 15:35 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2017

    British Transport Police says a man is assisting officers with their enquiries into an incident on board a train in Worcestershire during which a 14-year-old boy was reportedly rugby-tackled to the ground and punched after accidentally stepping on a man's dog.

  12. Boy in cardiac arrest who could not attend nearest hospital dies miles from home published at 15:09 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2017

    An ambulance called to a boy who went into cardiac arrest bypassed a nearby hospital for a site 18 miles further away at which he died. 

    Alexandra Hospital in Redditch is about a two-minute drive from Callum Cartlidge's home where he was taken ill, but it has  not been accepting ambulances that are dealing with paediatric emergencies  since September last year.

    The eight-year-old's journey to Worcestershire Royal Hospital - 18 miles further away than the Alexandra - took 23 minutes during Friday's rush hour, sources say.

    Last Thursday, Callum was discharged from Worcestershire Royal Hospital to which he had been sent by a GP, his mother Stacey said, having got more poorly following an earlier diagnosis of tonsilitis.

    Following a cardiac arrest on Friday afternoon he returned and died, the trust running both sites confirmed.

    The trust says it cannot comment further while "a full external SUDIC (Sudden Unexpected Death In Infants And Children) investigation as well as our own internal processes" are under way.

    A woman from Kidderminster who was targeted by telephone scammers in an organised con is warning other people to be on their guard. 

    The BBC has found  TalkTalk customers in the UK have been called from India as part of an industrial-scale fraud network in a bid to trick them into handing over personal details.

    When Maria Smith was phoned she realised something was wrong as she was no longer a TalkTalk customer.

    Talk Talk says it has launched a campaign called 'Beat the Scammers' and it proactively blocks more than 90 million scam and nuisance calls a month. 

  14. Missing person call every 90 secondspublished at 14:33 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2017

    Police forces in England and Wales received  one call every 90 seconds last year  about a missing person, official figures show.  

    In the West Mercia Police area, the number of children going missing rose by 15% in 2015/16, while the number of adults missing is up by 18% compared to the previous year.

    Data from the National Crime Agency, external  (NCA) reveals more than 335,000 missing person calls were made in 2015/16.

  16. Cricket: Moeen Ali likely to be available for some Worcestershire matches published at 13:43 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2017

    Worcestershire County Cricket Club has revealed Moeen Ali may be available to them for the new season.

    Moeen Ali has been in action with the national team, but director of cricket Steve Rhodes said there was a "good chance" Ali would be available to play some early season cricket for Worcestershire.

    He added any decision would be made when Ali returned from current England duty in the West Indies. 

    England is next in international action against Ireland in May.

  18. Football: Hereford FC submit evidence to crowd trouble enquiry published at 12:48 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2017

    Hereford FC have said they will make no further comment on events at Didcot Town until the FA and Southern League publish the results of their enquiries.
