    A Herefordshire lake has been awarded £241,000 to improve the habitat for wildlife. 

    The nature reserve at Bodenham Lake, external has been given grants by both the European Regional Development Fund and the Heritage Lottery Fund to create shallower banks and encourage reed beds to establish. 

    There'll also be a new bird hide and pond-dipping station.

    Reed bed habitat is essential for many wetland species, including bearded tits, bitterns and reed warblers, but is becoming increasingly scarce across the UK. 

    Floating islands will also be launched for birds to nest in safety, away from predators, while an osprey platform will be erected in the hope that the birds will stop there during their migration and even breed at the site.

    The driver of an Audi R8 is facing court action after being caught speeding at 110mph on the M5 at Bromsgrove, police say.

    Central Motorway Police say the driver was pulled over after overtaking an unmarked police car.

  4. Herefordshire's car parks 'ready for the new pound coin'published at 16:12 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March 2017

    Council car parks across Herefordshire have been adapted to accept the new pound coin, which comes into circulation on 28 March. 

    Of the council's 65 ticketing machines, 45 had to be adapted to take the new 12-sided coin, at a cost of £4,275.

    Worcester City Council says its car parks are also ready for the changeover - machines in 14 car parks had to be adapted at a cost of £14,500.

    A man and a woman have died their car collided with another car near Stourport , external on Friday evening, police say.

    The driver of one car, a man in his 30s, died after the collision on the A451 Great Witley to Dunley Road, shortly before 16:30.

    A woman in her 40s, who was a passenger in the same car, died a day later, after being flown to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

    A woman in her 80s, who was driving the second car, is in a stable condition in Worcestershire Royal Hospital with serious leg and wrist injuries.   

  6. Driver to go on trial after police officer knocked downpublished at 15:29 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March 2017

    A 46-year-old man will go on trial in June after a police officer was hit by a car near Evesham last month. 

    He denies grievous bodily harm and dangerous driving and will appear at Worcester Crown Court on 26 June.

    Bryce Heem scored two tries in the bonus-point win - a result that takes Warriors seven points clear of Bristol at the foot of the table.

    A 14-year-old boy travelling on a train in Worcestershire has been rugby-tackled to the ground and punched, after he accidentally stepped on a man's dog , external , police say.

    The boy apologised to the dog owner as soon as he realised what he'd done, but the man became aggressive and assaulted him.

    All 14 of Worcester City Council's car parks , external have been adapted to accept the new one pound coin, ready for its introduction on 28 March. 

    The ticketing machines have been adapted to accept the new 12-sided coin as well as the old one, at a cost of £14,500. 

    Drivers already have the option to pay for their parking and extend their stay using their mobile phone and a credit or debit card.

    A Worcestershire primary school is being forced to cancel trips for pupils after its minibus was stolen. 

    The vehicle was taken from Hartlebury Church of England Primary at the weekend - it had been bought last year to replace one that was burnt out.

    The school says it's already had to cancel a trip to a sports festival today and another planned day out in Stratford next week is also likely to be called off.

    An academic from the University of Worcester says the case of a woman who was punished for refusing to wear high heels at work is a clear example of sexism. 

    A petition against workplaces dictating women's footwear, started by Nicola Thorp who was sent home for refusing to swap her flats for heels, will be debated in Parliament today. 

    Social historian, Maggie Andrews, says women's appearance shouldn't be prioritised over their professional abilities.

    A national charity has praised a Worcestershire town for rallying round after its shop there was burgled. 

    The RSPCA shop in Upton-upon-Severn, external lost stock in a theft this week and posted about it on the town's Facebook page. 

    Staff in the shop were then amazed to be inundated with donations of goods and cash from local people.
