    Plans to tighten access to hip and knee replacements in Worcestershire are "still progressing", councillors have been told this morning.

    As part of saving £36m over the next year, clinical commissioning groups in Worcestershire want many patients to attempt weight loss or seek physio before surgery, or to meet specific thresholds for pain.

    Proposals to restrict surgery to only those suffering severe pain daily or struggling to sleep have been put on hold.

  2. Heritage railways raises £1.25m to reopen stationpublished at 17:05 British Summer Time 5 April 2017
    Breaking

    A share issue by a heritage railway line to reopen the station in Broadway has passed its £1.25m target a month ahead of schedule.

    The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway is now set to open Broadway station in March next year. 

    The station closed in 1960.

    I've met up with Stephen Clutterbuck, a Worcestershire man who's set up a pet taxi service claiming he's been turned down for jobs because he has Asperger's Syndrome. 

    Noah's Ark transports people's pets including cats, dogs and rabbits as many normal taxis won't take them.

    The legendary Midlands entertainer Pete Conway is showing his support for the Midlands Air Ambulance, after the service saved the life of one of his closest friends. 

    He will be visiting the airbase at Strensham on Friday before setting off on tour with his son Robbie Williams.

    Lloyds Bank has announced the locations of 100 branches that it plans to close between July and October .

    They are among a programme of 400 branch closures already announced in principle.

    The list includes the Lloyds branch in Broadway (pictured) and the Halifax branch in Droitwich Spa.

  9. 'Desperate need' remains in Nepal says paramedicpublished at 14:06 British Summer Time 5 April 2017

    A paramedic from Worcester, who's been helping to rebuild parts of Nepal following the 2015 earthquake , says many people are still living in temporary accommodation. 

    Phil Llewellyn has raised thousands of pounds to help rebuild homes.

    He says although the capital Kathmandu has largely recovered, remote parts of Nepal are still in desperate need of help.

  10. Woodland fenced off to keep out deerpublished at 13:26 British Summer Time 5 April 2017

    The middle of Warndon Woods in Worcester has been temporarily fenced off to protect the trees growing there from deer.

    Worcester City Council's parks department say the gates and fencing are to stop Roe and Muntjac deer from "browsing" on hazel and oak saplings.

    The council is asking people to respect the barriers, but has reassured people they will still be able to see the annual display of bluebells in the wood.

  11. Agency staff cover more than 500 hospital jobspublished at 13:06 British Summer Time 5 April 2017

    More than 350 nursing jobs and 181 medical jobs are being covered by agency staff at hospitals in Herefordshire and Worcestershire, according to the figures I've been given by the trusts running them.

    The trust who run hospitals in Worcestershire says it is trying to reduce its "reduce reliance on agency staff" with an "expanded and increased our in-house staff bank" and by holding regular recruitment events .

    The Wye Valley NHS Trust say they're confident of filling vacant doctor and nursing jobs, partly by getting people who are already qualified to return to the profession.

  13. Lane restored by volunteerspublished at 12:26 British Summer Time 5 April 2017

    Volunteers have spent the winter restoring an overgrown lane to its former glory, the council says.

    They've been restoring a "remnant track" at Bordesley Abbey Meadows near to the Park Way bus route in Abbeydale (pictured).

    The disused lane was allowed to grow over and hedges on either side had made it unpassable for many years.  

    The Midweek Conservation Volunteer Group has worked throughout the winter to remove scrubby growth and restore the hedges on either side using traditional hedge laying skills and farming methods.

  15. Man taken to hospital after assault outside clubpublished at 11:46 British Summer Time 5 April 2017

    A man needed hospital treatment after he was assaulted outside a club, police say.

    West Mercia Police say the man was punched in the face outside the Abbeydale Community Club on Woodfield Close in Redditch at about 23:00 on Friday.

    The 17-year-old was treated for cuts and scratches to his face - he also lost a tooth, a spokesman said.

    Health bosses in Worcestershire have been giving more detail on plans to create evening access to GPs in the county.

    Over the next 12 months surgeries in south Worcestershire will get up to 45 minutes extra evening provision, while the rest of the county will follow by 2019.

    But local Clinical Commissioning Groups have admitted there aren't enough GPs locally to keep all practices open later, meaning patients will have to travel further.

    People in Bromyard can now exercise their bodies and minds at the same site as the town's leisure centre takes over the running of the library. 

    The staff at Halo Leisure, with support from librarians, will now be handling the issuing and return of books, CDs and films at the Bromyard Centre.

    The centre is now open for 72 hours a week, triple the previous opening times.
