  2. Football: Bulls game to be played behind closed doorspublished at 09:20 British Summer Time 5 April 2017

    Hereford FC's rearranged game at Didcot Town will be played behind closed doors on Tuesday, 11 April, the club says.

    The original game was abandoned in the 87th minute after crowd trouble .

  3. Parking fines appeal 'postcode lottery'published at 09:00 British Summer Time 5 April 2017

    Drivers in Herefordshire are twice as likely to successfully appeal a parking ticket compared with people who park in Worcester city centre.

    In Worcester, only 28% of people who challenged their fine managed to get it overturned.

    In Herefordshire, 61% of people successfully appealed between January and October last year, according to figures obtained by a Freedom of Information request by the Press Association.

    Herefordshire Council says all appeals against parking tickets "are considered on their individual merit, taking into account mitigating circumstances and the nature of the contravention".

    Nationally, 38% of initial challenges made by drivers over on-street parking fines made to local authorities in England were successful in the same period.

    A survey of fish stocks in the River Severn, external has found 16 different species living in the stretch between Shrewsbury and Gloucester.

    The Environment Agency, which carried out the survey, said 2016 was the "year of the dace" - the most widespread species found.

    Officers found fewer fish than previously but there are now 16 species on our stretch of river, including barbel and bleak, gudgeon and goby.

    Minnow were the most numerous fish, and it was the first year common bream had been caught, the agency said.

    The children's ward at Worcesterhsire Royal Hospital had to be evacuated overnight after a water pipe burst.

    The trust running the hospital has released (left) during and (right) after images, showing the work staff did.

    Patients have been moved back into the ward today after the damage was addressed.

  12. 'Noise nuisance' neighbour ordered to cut dog numberspublished at 17:29 British Summer Time 4 April 2017

    A dog owner has been ordered to reduce the number of dogs she keeps after six years of neighbours' complaints about their barking.

    Margaret Lansdell, from Dancing Green in Ross-on-Wye, pleaded guilty to failing to comply with a noise abatement notice served on her by Herefordshire Council in November 2015.

    After the 69 year old's plea on Friday, the council asked Hereford Magistrates Court to make a Criminal Behaviour Order telling her to reduce the number of dogs she had at the property.

    The court ordered her to reduce the number of dogs she kept from 10 to six by 1 May.

  13. Polish man freed from slavery after eight yearspublished at 17:14 British Summer Time 4 April 2017

    Eight years in captivity and he's now adjusting to being a free man.

    Janusz, not his real name, was trafficked from Poland to the West Midlands picking vegetables from fields, as well as working at a a recycling plant for 12 hours a day, six days a week. 

    Figures show the number of potential victims of slavery and people trafficking in the UK has risen to 3,805 in 2016 - a 118% increase in three years.

    Many that are rescued are taken to safe houses run by the Salvation Army.

    Janusz was freed after a police investigation and now lives in one of these safe houses.

    Anne Read from the organisation says: "They are often trapped, not by keys or padlocks but by threats which we are seeing continually."

  14. Hospital ward evacuated after pipe burstspublished at 16:35 British Summer Time 4 April 2017

    Patients had to be moved from the children's ward at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital last night after a burst pipe caused a flood.

    All the patients were moved safely to other areas of the hospital overnight while works to repair the area started, the hospital trust said.

    The flood was cleared and the pipe repaired overnight, with the majority of the ward re-opening earlier-  all patients should be back in later today, the trust says.

  15. Homes plan for former car plant deferredpublished at 16:05 British Summer Time 4 April 2017

    Plans to build hundreds of new homes on the site of a former car plant in north Worcestershire have been deferred. 

    At a planning committee meeting last night, district councillors in Bromsgrove called for further consultation on two applications to build 150 and 185 houses plus a community centre on part of the former MG Rover works near Cofton Hackett.

  16. Pavillion to be refurbished in historical parkpublished at 15:45 British Summer Time 4 April 2017

    Work to refurbish the Sons of Rest Pavilion in Gheluvelt Park, Worcester, will start this autumn, the council says.

    The timber building was opened in 1953, with the Grade II-listed park opened in 1922 to commemorate the 1914 battle of Gheluvelt which involved the Worcestershire Regiment.

    The new facility will have a refreshment kiosk and a community room.

    The work is expected to be finished by April next year, the council says.

  17. Date set for funeral of former council chairmanpublished at 15:14 British Summer Time 4 April 2017

    A date has been fixed for the funeral of the former Shropshire County Council chairman, Major Adrian Coles. 

    It'll take place next Wednesday at St Paul's Church in the village of Knowbury, near Clee Hill.

    Major Coles, who also founded the British Hedgehog Preservation Society, died nearly a fortnight ago at the age of 86.
