    A headmaster who is retiring after 15 years in charge has been presented with the sign for a street that is to be named after him.

    A Worcestershire cyclist is getting ready to set off on a 150-mile ride to raise money for the charity that helped him back to fitness after he was beaten up and left for dead.

    In 2001, Jono Gurney (pictured with his family) was living in London after university when he was attacked on a night out - his head was stamped on several times and he spent seven weeks in a coma.

    After returning to his parents' home in Powick, he was helped by the Malvern-based rehabilitation charity Arcos - and is now planning to cycle from his home to Pembrokeshire in order to give something back.

    A West Midlands MEP has announced he is standing to become the next leader of UKIP.

    Bill Etheridge has called himself the party's "libertarian candidate", and is aiming to succeed Paul Nuttall, who quit as leader after poor results in the general election.

  5. Vigil marks the first anniversary of the death of a homeless manpublished at 13:21 British Summer Time 5 July 2017

    A vigil is taking place in Worcester today, one year to the day since a homeless man was found dead in a tent.

    Campaigners will gather along Worcester’s riverside to mark the death of Cardon Banfield, whose badly decomposed body was found near Worcestershire County Cricket Club in New Road last July.

    Health bosses in Wyre Forest have voted in favour of restricting patient access to a number of prescriptions, including over-the-counter medicines and gluten-free foods.

    To try to save more than £3m a year across Worcestershire it's proposed gluten free foods and baby milks would no longer be available on prescription, except when judged clinically important.

    Couples would only be allowed one cycle of IVF treatment rather than the current two.

    To take effect, the changes will still need to be approved by the rest of the county tomorrow.

    The Met Office says "two waves of thunderstorms are expected to affect the West Midlands on Thursday, external".

    It is warning "20 to 30mm (1 - 1.2in) of rain may fall within an hour and perhaps 50 to 80mm (2 - 3in) in two or three hours".

    I'm at a meeting of the Wyre Forest Clinical Commissioning group - they buy lots of different types of health care from hospital services and community-based services like blood testing and physiotherapy.

    Clinicians and health bosses at the meeting have described current waiting times for cancer diagnosis and treatment as "unacceptable".

    Figures from last month show that 205 patients in Worcestershire were waiting more than 62 days for treatment, while 12 waited more than 104 days.

    The failure of two ultrasound machines at Redditch's Alexandra Hospital was described as "a key factor in the delays".

    The deadline for bids for Herefordshire Council's controversial sale of their farm estate is midday today.

    Forty-three of the farms owned by the council are up for sale and have been split into 59 lots.

    The rent generates £400,000 a year for the authority, but it says putting them up for sale will provide the best value for money for taxpayers.

    Research carried out by the University of Worcester has found victims of harassment and stalking are being left at risk because of failings by police and prosecutors in England and Wales.

    One person told a researcher: "It got to the point where I actually said to my mum one night that 'Do you know what? I'm going to be a story in the newspaper. I'm going to be another one of these girls that gets murdered by her ex'."

    Among the 112 cases researchers looked at was a female bank employee who told police a male stranger kept visiting her at work - leaving gifts and following her after she finished work to a bus stop.

    She said he had acted in a similar way with a colleague. The employee was transferred to another bank branch, but the man tracked her down. She then confronted him, and he became angry.

    But police did not arrest or interview the man, instead issuing him with a Police Information Notice - a protection order designed to help prevent this type of offence.

    Police and prosecution chiefs have promised to improve performance.

    Halesowen reported the match was called off after a collision that led to one of the assistant referees sustaining a broken leg.

    Researchers at the University of Worcester have found victims of harassment and stalking are being left at risk because of failings by police and prosecutors in England and Wales.

    They looked at 112 cases on behalf of the Inspectorate of Constabulary and the Crown Prosecution Service Inspectorate, external and found that crimes weren't always being recorded, some investigations were poorly conducted and legal protection wasn't offered to enough victims.
