  2. Peregrine chick returned after falling from pylon homepublished at 17:22 British Summer Time 1 August 2017

    David Gregory-Kumar
    Science correspondent, BBC Midlands Today

A peregrine falcon chick was today returned to its home on a Birmingham industrial estate after being found in a car park when it fell from its nest.

    The rescued peregrine chick

The bird was injured during the severe winds at the beginning of June and has been cared for at The Falconry Centre in Hagley, Worcestershire, where rescuers have been trying to work out how to return it to its parents.

It was eventually established the family was nesting in a nearby pylon, making the parents difficult to spot.

The Centre has cared for three peregrine chicks this year. This unusually high number is due to the species spreading into urban areas where it's harder for the birds to care for their young if they fall from their nest.

Upon release, the chick was reunited with mum and dad.

Aldi has apologised to a Worcester resident who lives near one of their stores after months of lorry deliveries turning up early in the morning outside his house.

Andrew Falconer blocked a delivery lorry into the loading bay on Bath Road on Sunday in protest at its arrival, 50 minutes earlier than expected at 07:10 BST.

He said it's affecting his and his neighbours quality of life and he's had enough.

"It's causing sleep deprivation, it's causing stress which isn't good for anyone at all, especially not for the residents who bought these houses - there's several of us still here that bought them brand new 20 years ago - and we've lived here quite happily up until now," he said.

An Aldi spokesperson said the firm was working with the developer and landlord of the site to resolve the issues around acoustic fencing and added that delivery drivers have been reminded of the time restrictions in place for delivery to the store.

Hereford's bypass scheme has been awarded £300,000, it's emerged.

It will go towards the link road, between the A465 and the A49, plus a new river crossing at Breinton.

Midlands Connect, a collaboration across the Midlands between local authorities, enterprise partnerships, Network Rail, Highways England and central government, has come up with the money.

Councillor Philip Price, cabinet member infrastructure, said: “Having the support of Midlands Connect to deliver the bypass scheme is key in its successful delivery.

    Campaigners against the bypass plans

"The bypass will deliver the growth Herefordshire vitally needs to remain self-sustaining; but from a regional viewpoint it also delivers an improved regional corridor from the Midlands, the Marches and into South Wales.”

Herefordshire Council has said it hopes to compete the bypass - which wasn't welcomed by everyone - between 2022 and 2027, subject to funding.

Transgender children as young as seven are seeking support from an annual meet up in Herefordshire.

Rosie, 15, from Malvern, said without a support network like Mermaids, she would feel incredibly isolated.

"I'm now enjoying life as I'm meant to be," she said.

"The amount of diversity in Hereford and Worcester is wonderful... It's really, really accepting and wonderful to be living."

The meeting takes place at a secret location in the county and is one of four events of its kind in the UK.

The charity, which was given a £10,000 lottery grant for its work last year, said it wants to reach out to families and offer them advice and a safe space to talk.
