  4. M5 delays: Compensation 'unlikely'published at 12:29 British Summer Time 31 July 2017

Businesses in Worcestershire adversely affected by the latest lane closures on the M5 have been told they're unlikely to get any compensation.

    M5 at junction 4a

For the past week the motorway has been down to one lane north of junction 4a to try to encourage drivers to use the M42 instead, avoiding delays around bridge repair work at Oldbury.

However, it's caused long delays for drivers and homeowners say their properties could be damaged by heavy goods vehicles choosing to avoid the motorways all together.

    Quote Message

It is not something that we tend to do, giving people compensation. If there's a specific concern then we'll talk to individuals, but as a rule no, we don't tend to do that

Five men were jailed in connection with the death of Jesse Richards, in Cleve Prior, and were collectively sentenced to more than 50 years in prison.

Jesse, who was originally from Gloucester, was killed in an attack over a drugs debt.

His body is thought to have been taken by his attackers to Warwickshire where it has remained hidden.

    Quote Message

"I know nothing will bring my son back to me but I appeal to the public and ask they put themselves in my shoes. My son has been taken from me in the most violent way, eight years on and I still have not been able to lay his body to rest. I don't know where he is and the pain of not being able to visit his resting place is too much to bear

  6. 'Clear end date needed' for ban on all MPs employing family memberspublished at 11:41 British Summer Time 31 July 2017

    Claudia Berry
    BBC Hereford & Worcester

There are calls for all MPs, including Worcestershire's Mark Garnier, to be banned from employing family members.

    Mark Garnier

New MPs are already banned from doing so and campaigners want a deadline brought in for existing members to also conform to the new parliamentary standard.

The MP for the Wyre Forest Mark Garnier is the only member in Herefordshire and Worcestershire to employ a family member - his wife Caroline is employed as his office manager.

    Quote Message

The ban on new MPs employing family members reflects the public's concerns about nepotism and the potential abuse of public money. A transitional period is reasonable, particularly as the snap election means that these rules have come into force three years earlier than expected. However, there does need to be a clear end date."

    BBC Midlands Today

Commuters in north Worcestershire say they're facing nightmare journeys over the next two years.

    M5

Delays and extra traffic will be caused by the repairs to the M5 at the Oldbury viaduct.

The work will see only one lane working in either direction on the M5, with most of the traffic diverted right around the M42 which could see an extra 60,000 vehicles using the road.
