  1. Zero hygiene rating for Hull's Nuffield Health cafepublished at 11:34 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2017

    Hull's Nuffield Health cafe has been given a zero rating during a visit by environmental health inspectors.

    Nuffield Health cafe at Kingston Park in Hull has the worst-possible hygiene rating and required "urgent improvement".

    During the inspection on 1 December 2016 the inspectors saw out-of-date food, staff not washing their hands and broken equipment as a freedom of information request by the Hull Daily Mail, external revealed.

    In a statement Nuffield Health say they voluntarily closed the cafe for four days after the inspection and then reopened.

    They added that since December there have been subsequent inspections and at those inspectors have been happy with the changes made.

  2. Hull's Gypsy Moth model now in placepublished at 11:05 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2017

    Inmates at HMP Hull built a model of the Gypsy Moth plane flown by Amy Johnson - the Hull-born aviator, who was the first woman to fly solo from England to Australia in 1930.

    It's now in place in Hull Paragon Station and will be there during 2017 to celebrate City of Culture.

  3. Children's Commissioner to speak to councils after Poppy Widdison deathpublished at 10:49 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2017

    The Children’s Commissioner will be talking to North East Lincolnshire Council following the death of Poppy Widdison (pictured). 

    It's part of a review Anne Longfield will undertake to consider when officials should intervene in child protection cases.

  4. Hull teachers head to Sierra Leonepublished at 10:21 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2017

    A group of 20 teachers from 10 Hull schools are setting off for twin city Freetown in Sierra Leone this morning.

    The visit is part of The British Council's 'Connecting Classrooms' project which builds partnerships between schools in both countries allowing educators and young people to share ideas, skills and good working routines.

    The In Bloom team in Cleethorpes who've won numerous awards are suspending their work until they get a commitment from the council. 

    They've told us they want assurances that North East Lincolnshire council will continue supporting the work they do to keep the resort looking good. 

    No decision has been made by the council but they are considering a range of options. 

  7. Woman rescued from arson attack housepublished at 09:25 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2017

    A woman had to be rescued from a house after arsonists attacked a property in Scunthorpe.

    The unnamed woman was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary from the incident on Frodingham Road in Scunthorpe.

    The fire was reported, external at 22:25 on 8 February.

    She is receiving treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

    Engineering company Siemens is one of the first in the country to offer an employment programme to young people with special needs and disabilities.

    The project at the wind turbine blade factory in Hull (pictured) will see seven teenagers take up work placements. 

    They'll try out a variety of roles and could eventually get full employment with the company.

    Police are concerned about the welfare of Ian George Hetherington, 55, (pictured) went missing from the Cormorant Close area of Hull around 09:30 on 1 February.

    His friends are concerned because he was in a distressed state when they last heard from him and he hasn't been in touch with anyone since.

    I've been speaking to Humberside Police who say they've arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with the theft of a cash machine from Thorngumbald.

    They added that they've recovered the stolen cash machine.

    The ATM was taken from the Spar shop in the village in the early hours of this morning.

  17. Driver fails to stop after killing puppy in Hullpublished at 17:38 Greenwich Mean Time 9 February 2017

    A driver failed to stop when their car killed a puppy on the Greenwood Avenue junction of Beverley Road (pictured).

    The puppy was being walked across the road when it was struck and died at the scene.

    The incident happened on Monday 30 January at about 16:00 and police are appealing, external for witnesses.

    Northern rail conductors are to be balloted for strike action in a row over their role.  

    The Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union said members will vote on whether to take action, citing a failure to give assurances over the role's future.
