    A new group promoting culture in North East Lincolnshire has launched today. 

    CultureWorks is a consortium of arts, culture and heritage organisations, venues and practitioners organising activities and events to get more people in our region involved in the arts.

    Local community projects so far include: Birdhouse, Fusion Creative, Grimsby Jazz and Misfits Community Circus.

    The former Wales international (pictured right) was told in January that he was part of manager Marcus Bignot's future plans but has not heard anything since.

    "When I extended, the gaffer said he wanted me here next season as well," Collins, 36, told BBC Radio Humberside.

    British Steel’s Scunthorpe workforce has been bolstered by fresh talent after the company recruited 18 trainees in brand new roles.

    It comes almost a year after UK-based investment firm Greybull Capital signed a deal  safeguarding more than 4,000 jobs at the site .

    The latest intake of recruits started this week as manufacturing trainees which are first-of-their-kind positions designed to develop the next generation of steelworkers.

    Lessons have been learned and social care is improving following the death of toddler Poppy Widdison, the leader of North East Lincolnshire Council says.

    Poppy, who was four years old, died in Grimsby in June 2013 after months of abuse which saw her fed drugs by her mum and ex-partner.

    They were jailed for 13 years earlier this year

    Council leader Ray Oxby has today told BBC Radio Humberside that 70% of the council's budget is spent on social care for adults and children.

    The trial of a holiday park owner who was accused of mis-selling retirement chalets near Beverley has collapsed.

    William Flannigan (pictured), 51, of Stanneylands Road, Wilmslow, was accused of selling holiday chalets at Lakeminster Park without planning permission to let people live in them all year round. 

    Mr Flannigan denied 10 counts of fraud by misrepresentation.

    A judge at Hull Crown Court has ruled after a nine-week trial that there is no case to answer.

    A 65-year-old East Yorkshire cancer survivor is training for a staggering nine-week cycle ride to visit 35 cancer units across the UK .

    He then plans to pedal 1,500 miles on a route through Yorkshire, the Midlands, East Anglia, London, the south coast, the West Country, the North West, the North East and Scotland:

    A paving stone dedicated to a Hull rugby league star who was awarded a posthumous Victoria Cross (VC) has been unveiled .

    John "Jack" Harrison, who had a successful career with Hull FC, was given the VC in 1917 for actions under fire in France during World War One.

    The stone will go on display in Hull History Centre before being placed at Sutton War Memorial on 7 May.

    It is part of a scheme to recognise World War One recipients of the VC.

    Police are appealing for help in finding 19-year-old Scunthorpe man Thomas Edgar.

    He is wanted for a number of offences over the past week and police say they're concerned his his offending is escalating - with further incidents being reported over the past 48 hours.

    Numerous searches and arrest attempts have taken place, however he's yet to be found, say police.

    Waste plastic that's washed up along our shores will soon be harvested from the East Coast and converted into new bottles. 

    Environmental campaigners say plastic in our seas is damaging to marine life.

    People who light fires on Hull's Ings estate must take responsibility, the city council is warning.

    It's a response to calls for more action against arson attacks as residents say they've been a problem for the past six years.

    Sam Harrison, who lives on the estate, has told the BBC the estate is a " warzone ".

    Libraries in Grimsby and Immingham have had to employ security staff after young people started congregating there, a report due to be discussed by councillors next week reveals.

    The report, to the Tourism, Leisure and Culture Scrutiny Panel, says in recent weeks there've been "unprecedented levels of disruption" at both Central Library and Immingham Library.

    This is as a result of "increased numbers of young people using libraries as a meeting place and venue for causing nuisance and disturbance to regular users", the report adds.

  17. Cancer nurse 'grabbed girl, 16, for sex' off Hull streetpublished at 13:39

    A cancer nurse tried to drag a 16-year-old girl into his car containing 16 condoms, three tins of Vaseline and a roll of tape, a jury has been told.

    It's alleged that Michael Ohaegbu, 42, of Chestnut Avenue, grabbed her during an assault while she was walking along Peel Street in Hull after midnight following a night out on 26 September last year.

    Mr Ohaegbu, who worked at Castle Hill Hospital, denies attempted kidnap, assault, committing an offence with intent to commit a sexual offence. 

    He also pleaded not guilty to three counts of voyeurism, which relate to another complainant.

    The trial continues.

  19. Health Secretary to consider East Yorkshire urgent care plans published at 13:03 British Summer Time 4 April 2017

    Plans to change the way urgent care is delivered and to close community beds in East Yorkshire are to be referred to the Health Secretary.

    An East Riding Council scrutiny panel has voted unanimously on the issue today. 

    The BBC has learned that while acknowledging the "good intentions" of East Riding Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), the panel believes the proposed changes to the way urgent care is delivered poses risks to people living in the region. 

    The final decision will now be taken by Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt. 

    Last month, the CCG voted to approve plans which will see the loss of the Hornsea Minor Injuries Unit and the creation of three main Urgent Care Centres in Beverley, Bridlington and Goole.

    The proposal would also see community beds close in Withernsea and Bridlington.

    Cleethorpes, Hornsea and the North York Moors coast are getting money to help revive local economies. 

    One idea is to create a new tourism area in Hornsea.  

    It is hoped the investment will create jobs and help seaside towns become year-round.
