    The wooden groynes on Withernsea beach are going to be replaced. 

    They've been in place since the early 20th century and are there to retain the beach sand.

  2. New memorials to honour those who died at seapublished at 16:04 British Summer Time 3 April 2017

    Members of Hull Bullnose Heritage Group, which was set up to commemorate the thousands of trawlermen who lost their lives working in the city's fishing industry, are still working hard to make sure those who died at sea are remembered.

    Their latest project involves these stainless steel boards which list the names of people who died doing their job.

    The group also plans to have three commemorative murals painted along Hessle Road:

  3. Appeal after four men racially abused in Hullpublished at 15:43 British Summer Time 3 April 2017

    Four men of Asian appearance are believed to have been racially abused in Hull by another man, police say.

    The incident happened at about 17:30 on Thursday 9 March near the University of Hull on Cottingham Road (pictured).

    The suspect is described as a black male, about 25 to 30-years-old, of slim build, with short black hair.

    Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to get in touch:

  4. Coastal cash injection a 'significant boost'published at 15:18 British Summer Time 3 April 2017

    More now on the extra money being invested in our coastal towns, with the Coastal Communities Fund giving Cleethorpes almost £4m after a successful bid from North East Lincolnshire Council.

  5. Reports of children meeting paedophiles increase in Yorkshire and Humber published at 14:55 British Summer Time 3 April 2017

    Police across Yorkshire and the Humber have seen a rise in reports of children meeting paedophiles, according to figures released by the NSPCC.

    From today, a new law means groomers who target children through their phones and social media face two years in jail. 

    There were 93 reports last year to police forces across the Yorkshire and Humber region - more than double the number five years ago.

  7. Your views: Police Commissioner condemns hate crime against Travellers published at 14:07

    The Police and Crime Commissioner for Humberside has condemned hate crime against Gypsies and Travellers.

    Keith Hunter says he's been "concerned for a while about the tone of conversation" in connection with the two groups.

    He says he aims to bring the issue up with Humberside Police's temporary Chief Constable.

    A man has been jailed for four years for the theft of a cash machine from a Spar shop in East Yorkshire.

    The ATM was ripped from the wall of the shop in Thorngumbald in February using a stolen digger.

    Lewis Holdstock, 22, of Southcoates Lane, Hull, had earlier pleaded guilty to theft at Hull Crown Court.

    If you fancied applying for the post of chief constable of Humberside Police but so far haven't got round to it, you've sadly missed your chance with applications for the job  now closed .

    Interviews for short-listed candiates will now take place on 26 April, the Police and Crime Commissioner's office has said.

    The  post became vacant after Justine Curran (pictured)  stepped down in February  - 18 months ahead of her retirement.  

    The move came after the force was told by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary in November that it  "requires improvement  ".

    Human bones excavated from a deserted medieval village near Driffield, East Yorkshire, show people mutilated and burned bodies to stop them rising from the dead

    Knife marks were found on 137 bones from about 10 people dating between the 11th and 14th centuries which were discovered at Wharram Percy.

    Experts at Historic England and Southampton University say it's the first evidence of ancient practices to stop "corpses rising from their graves, spreading disease and assaulting the living".

    The Humber Bridge has been turned into a musical installation with sounds that change depending on your route across the landmark linking Hull and North Lincolnshire.

    The Height of the Reeds, external  is an installation created by Opera North for Hull's City of Culture celebrations.

    The Police and Crime Commissioner for Humberside has condemned hate crime against Gypsies and Travellers.

    Keith Hunter (pictured) says he'll speak to the temporary Chief Constable of Humberside Police to make sure people are prosecuted if they post hateful comments likely to provoke racial hatred against any group.

  16. Report highlights physical inactivity in Yorkshire and Humber published at 10:05 British Summer Time 3 April 2017

    Over 1.5m people in Yorkshire and the Humber region are physically inactive, according to the British Heart Foundation .

    That makes up 40% of the population - with women more likely to be inactive than men. 

    The charity's now urging people to run the length of a marathon (that's 26.2 miles) over the course of a month - from as little as a mile a day.

    A Beverley-based charity is appealing for help sorting donations from hospitals and pharmaceutical companies so they can be sent to countries like Syria.

    The Jacob's Well charity has a warehouse packed full of donations - but not enough people to help work out exactly what's been donated.

  18. Deadline passes for Humberside Chief Constable rolepublished at 09:21

    The deadline's now closed to apply to be the Chief Constable of Humberside Police.

    Hornsea, Cleethorpes, Hull and the area near Spurn Point are to get about £9m worth of investment to help boost the local economy.

    The cash comes from the government's Coastal Communities Fund, with Cleethorpes and Hornsea getting the lion's share to help bring more tourists into the resorts.

    It is hoped the investment will create jobs and help our seaside towns become year-round destinations.
