    Flytipped rubbish

    A man from Hull's been fined £500 after someone else dumped his rubbish in a ditch.

    Jack Davies let two strangers take away a fridge and bags of rubbish which were later found abandoned.

    East Riding of Yorkshire Council then traced the flytipped waste back to him.

    The advice is to check who is disposing of your waste.

    Striker Craig Davies has rejected a new contract offer by Scunthorpe United, opting to sign for Oldham Athletic.

    Meanwhile former midfielder Jamie Ness has joined newly promoted League One side Plymouth Argyle.

    Several leading universities have failed to score highly in a new ranking of degree teaching standards.

    The Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) has rated 295 institutions bronze, silver or gold according to their standard of undergraduate teaching.

    Gold went to 59 and silver to 116.

    The lowest score of bronze was awarded to 56 - including the London School of Economics (LSE), Southampton, Liverpool, Goldsmiths and the School of Oriental and African Studies (Soas)

    The University of Hull was ranked as silver. Hull College and Bishop Burton College have been ranked as bronze.

    A missing man from Hull has been found dead in a hedgerow after coming off his motorbike.

    Connor Jones and his bike were found by officers yesterday evening in dense hedging by the side of the B1238 at Flinton between Hornsea and Hull.

    It's thought the crash happened some time between 16:00 and midnight on Monday.

    Police are appealing for information.

    Supporters and former players have come together today to remember Arthur Bunting.

    The former Hull FC coach, who died aged 80, had his funeral at the site of the old Boulevard stadium which is now a school.

    Former player Chris Davidson remembered Arthur as a friend and said he was a "good bloke" and was well liked across Hull.

    Farmers say a proposed ban on an ingredient found in many common weedkillers could cost the country billions of pounds.

    North Lincolnshire farmer Chris Hewis uses weedkillers containing glyphosate.

    The EU is proposing a ban on the substance as there are fears it could cause cancer if it gets into the food or water supply.

    Mr Hewis says a minimal amount of the chemical actually touches crops so he doesn't believe a ban is necessary:

    A patient missing from a mental health unit in Dumfries may have stowed away on a lorry bound for Scunthorpe.

    Abdelnabi Alainani, 30, left the Midpark Hospital on Tuesday - sparking a major search operation.

    He has been described as of Asian appearance, about 5ft 7in tall and thin with short, dark curly hair.

    A driver who travelled from Dumfries saw a man matching the description climb out of his lorry in Scunthorpe on Wednesday.

    The funeral of former Hull FC coach Arthur Bunting takes place in Hull this afternoon.

    The service is for family, close friends and former players.

    Earlier today a short service took place at the Boulevard Academy for everyone to pay their respects and celebrate Arthur's outstanding career.

    During a seven year spell in charge of the black and whites, Arthur won every major rugby league trophy and set a world record in 1978 when the team was unbeaten for an entire season.

    Former Hull MP and Health Secretary Alan Johnson is taking on a senior role at a company which looks after healthcare buildings in Hull.

    It's claimed Mr Johnson turned down other national opportunities to take up the position of independent chair at Citycare.

    Part-owned by the NHS, the public-private partnership was set up in 2004 and has been behind the development of 13 new health and wellbeing centres across the city.

    I've been in Bridlington this morning because it's been voted the second-best beach in the UK for building sandcastles according to a new study.

    Researchers at Bournemouth University looked at how to create the perfect sand castle.

    They say Bridlington is only behind Torquay when it comes to the best UK sand to create a castle.

    Humberside Police could have a new chief constable by the end of today.

    At the end of May it was announced that Lee Freeman was the preferred candidate for the job.

    He is currently the force's temporary deputy chief constable.

    The Humberside Police and Crime Panel could approve the appointment today or delay it.

    A new flood defence scheme to protect more than 8,000 homes will be officially unveiled today as we approach the 10th anniversary of the devastating 2007 floods in Hull.

    Grassland which will become a lagoon if there is excessive rain

    The Willerby and Derringham flood alleviation scheme is designed to act as a lagoon which captures and controls run-off from heavy rainfall.

    In 2007 an unprecedented amount of water flowed from land in the East Riding. It overwhelmed Hull's drainage system.
