    A high speed rail link should be built between Hull and Liverpool, according to former chancellor, George Osbourne.

    He's written an open letter to Theresa May in the Financial Times, calling on the Prime Minister to consider linking cities in the North including Leeds and Manchester.

    Drax Power chief executive Andy Koss was one signatory demanding an increase in transport spending in the north. Drax uses compressed wood pellets to generate 17% of the UK's renewable electricity.

    A man has suffered minor head injuries after confronting two men who were attempting to steal a van from his drive.

    It happened when he heard a noise outside his house on Glanford Crescent in Hibaldstow, Brigg at about 21:20 last night. He confronted two men and was assualted.

    The offenders fled empty handed. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.

    Grimsby Town Football Club says it doesn't condone female supporters being asked to show their underwear because of security concerns.

    The comments come after claims Mariners fans were asked to show their bras to stewards ahead of an away match against Stevenage on Saturday.

    Stevenage FC said after liaising with Grimsby Town's safety officer and the police it was thought prohibited items were likely to be brought into the ground and could be passed on to those "deemed less likely to be searched, such as women and younger supporters".

    The club say incidents of any inappropriate behaviour were recorded on the day and CCTV footage is being studied.

    NHS England has announced it will invest £2m to try to recruit doctors from overseas into practices in East Yorkshire and North East Lincolnshire.

    Many practices have struggled to get staff, with newly qualified GPs often working as locums rather than joining as a permanent GP. Older doctors are also leaving the profession early.

    NHS England will identify and support potential doctors before they are allocated to practices. Before they start they'll be put through stringent tests, including English language.

    Former England cricketer and BBC commentator Geoffrey Boycott has apologised for an "unacceptable" comment about West Indian cricketers.

    He said that he would be more likely to receive a knighthood if he was to "black his face".

    Boycott, 76, has now described his comments at a Q&A in Birmingham on Saturday as "clearly wrong".

    The Yorkshireman added, external that he loves West Indian cricket and has "the utmost respect for its players".

    It will be 2025 at the very earliest before improvements to the A63 in Hull will be completed.

    Senior politicans in the city met Highways England staff yesterday and were told there would be further delays to the project.

    It's hoped work will now begin in 2020 on the Castle Street improvements and new footbridge, but the whole scheme isn't yet a done deal according to the council.

    I spoke to one resident at the marina who told me the delays are very frustrating.

    A new twenty three million pound research and development centre is opening in Hull today which will explore new treatments for drug addicition.

    Pharmaceutical company Indivior says more than 50 people will be employed at the site at Priory Park.

    The Northern Powerhouse Minister Jake Berry is one of those attending today's ribbon cutting ceremony.

    Officials are expressing their frustration this morning after plans to improve the A63 in Hull were delayed once again by Highways England.

    Senior politicans have been told that work on the multi-million pound A63 improvement scheme won't begin until 2020 at the very earliest.

    Councillor Martin Mancey is responsible for transport at Hull City Council.

    Work to install the decorative steel ring and paving around Solar Gate has now started.

    The 10m artwork first went up last week in Queen's Gardens at a cost of more than £300,000.

    It's expected to be several weeks before the sculpture is ready for the public.

    Former Chancellor George Osborne has called on the government to build high-speed rail lines across the north of England, from Liverpool to Hull.

    Mr Osborne, who spearheaded the "Northern Powerhouse" initiative when in government, asked for the commitment in an article in the Financial Times, external.

    He admitted "it will not be cheap", but said it would "transform" the economy.

    The government said it was "investing billions of pounds" to "better connect communities" across the north.

    The Northern Powerhouse Partnership - chaired by the former Tatton MP - is launching a campaign for the new-high speed connection this week, starting with a line across the Pennines.

    This plan for "HS3" would follow on from the existing HS2 scheme - a planned line linking London and Birmingham, that will split into two branches to Manchester and Leeds.
