The north of England's "huge economic potential is being held back by an out-dated, expensive and slow transport system", northern leaders say.
A delegation of political and business officials at Cloth Hall Court have issued a joint statement, in which they have called for "substantial new investment in modern infrastructure linking the great cities of the north".
Among those who have been attending the event are leaders of Leeds, Newcastle, Sheffield and Manchester councils, Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham, Liverpool City Region Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram and business representatives.
Quote MessageWe believe that people across the north have waited long enough for transport services on a par with other parts of the country. The disparity between transport in the north of England and London must now be addressed"
