    Experts from across the world are gathering in Hull today to discuss how the city and wider area could pioneer new ways to deal with flooding.

    10 years ago, flooding affected more than ten thousand properties in the city and caused more than forty million pounds worth of damage.

    The event is being organised by Yorkshire Water.

    A special assembly will take place at a school in North Lincolnshire this morning after a member of staff was stabbed yesterday.

    A 16-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a 61-year-old school welfare officer was seriously injured.

    The incident took place at Winterton Community Academy near Scunthorpe.

    The exhibition for the most prestigious prize in British art is expected to draw huge crowds in Hull today.

    Art critics came to the Ferens Art Gallery yesterday to see work by the four artists shortlisted for the Turner Prize.

    This morning, the doors open to the public - with the winner named in December.

    Trains from Bridlington to Doncaster will continue to stop in Beverley, according to the MP Graham Stuart.

    Northern Rail had proposed ending the service next year, meaning passengers would have to change in Hull instead.

    The Beverley and Holderness MP says he has been reassured by Northern Rail that the Bridlington to Sheffield service is 'very likely' to continue its stops at Beverley when the new timetable from May 2018 is finalised by Network Rail.

    CCTV images have been released of a man who went into a shop in Cleethorpes wearing a balaclava and carrying a hammer.

    The man walked into the Today's Local shop on Brereton Avenue just after 07.30 on Saturday 23 September.

    He demanded the shopkeeper open the till. She refused and the man left the shop.

  13. Popular cycling café secures permanent locationpublished at 17:19 British Summer Time 25 September 2017

    The future of a popular cycling café in Beverley has been secured today after planners agreed to grant it a permanent licence.

    Café Velo lies on North Bar Within, but its planning permission had run out and the neighbours have complained about the noise.

    In the summer officials at County Hall were recommending the café be refused planning permission.

    But after a public outcry they've had a re-think and now say the café should be allowed to trade, but with live music limited to just 24 nights a year.

  14. School stabbing: New statement released by headteacherpublished at 17:06 British Summer Time 25 September 2017

    The headteacher at Winterton Community Academy has released a further statement after a 61-year-old welfare officer was stabbed there this morning.

    Gareth Morris said: "I would like to thank the parents and the community for the support they have shown at this extremely difficult time.

    "You will no doubt be aware of who this member of staff was but for the purposes of the website I am not at liberty to name her here.

    "I am, however, happy to report that her injuries are not life-threatening and she is as comfortable as she can be under these circumstances. Our thoughts are with her and her family at this time.

    "As you can appreciate there are numerous factors and people to consider during times of adversity such as these. I acted at all times with the best interests of the students, staff and parents in mind; whilst taking advice from Humberside Police.

    "School, as it was today, is open tomorrow and I am expecting all students to return in the morning."

    A 15-year-old girl has gone missing in Hull.

    Police say Shauna Platten was last seen around 21:00 on Saturday 23 September in the Inglemire Lane area of Hull as she boarded a bus.

    Officers are concerned for Shauna because of her age and want her confirm she's okay and urge her return home.

    Anyone who may have seen Shauna is being asked to contact Humberside Police.

  18. Council to pay millions in damages after baby boy left disabledpublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 25 September 2017

    A baby boy left disabled for life after being attacked by his mother's boyfriend will receive £14m damages after a local council admitted it knew he was at risk.

    The boy, who is still aged under 10 and lives in Hull, suffered serious injuries and was left wheelchair-dependant with the mental age of a two-year-old, London's High Court heard.

    Following his injuries, the boy's father sued East Riding of Yorkshire Council for damages on his behalf.

    The court heard the attacker was jailed for the assault on the boy.
