  2. Joseph Caley Lead Principal at English National Balletpublished at 11:21 Greenwich Mean Time 14 December 2017

    Hull-born ballet dancer Joseph Caley will be the new Lead Principal of English National Ballet.

    The announcement was made by the ballet's artistic director, Tamara Rojo, who noted Caley's "incredible talent and professionalism".

    Caley trained at the Royal Ballet School and recently performed at the reopening of Hull New Theatre as part of the City of Culture celebrations.

    He'll take up the role on 20 January 2018.

    Hull City Council says City of Culture events this year have attracted 3.5m people.

    A report also shows hotels have been near to 90% full on average and there's been a rise in the number of independent businesses opening.

    The local authority says people believe in the city and more big name restaurants and retailers could soon be on their way to Hull.

  4. Grants for events and activities in Cleethorpespublished at 10:32 Greenwich Mean Time 14 December 2017

    It's emerged that £170,000 is being made available for organisations looking to put on events and activities in the Cleethorpes area.

    The money will come from the government's coastal communities pot which awarded £3.8m to the town earlier in the year.

    CoastNEL, the group responsible for distributing the funds, says a number of grants are up for grabs, including up to £500 for small community groups and £15,000 for professional events.

    Applications for the first funding session must be made by 28 February 2018.

    Drivers are being urged to check their cars after Humberside Police found an alarming number of faulty vehicles on our region's roads.

    The force is cracking down on poor maintenance, which it says is putting lives at risk.

    PC Glenn Dennis says the number of defects they find is shocking.

    The owners of Hull City will meet supporters' groups this evening to discuss two of the most contentious issues in the club's recent history.

    Assem (pictured below) and Ehab Allam are preparing to talk to fans about proposals to reintroduce supporter concessions, which were scrapped last year, and the use of the club's name in relation to branding.

    The owners have twice tried to change the club name to Hull City Tigers from Hull City AFC.

    Are you heading out to see the new Star Wars film over the next few days?

    If so, it'll cost you three times more to see the film in Lincoln as it will in Hull.

    BBC Radio Lincolnshire has found The Last Jedi in 3D costs £15 to see at the Lincoln Odeon - whereas at the Hull Odeon, it only costs £5.75.

    Odeon says it uses a "dynamic pricing system" to work out prices in different areas.

  8. Council to discuss Scunthorpe Market petitionpublished at 08:29 Greenwich Mean Time 14 December 2017

    A petition signed by 19,000 people against the proposed move of Scunthorpe Market will be discussed by the council today.

    The plans would see the market move onto the high street from its current location, where it's been for decades.

    It's part of £60m plans to regenerate the town centre but North Lincolnshire Council says no decision has been made on the future of the market.

    School inspectors working in East Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire say improvements are being made but schools need to do more to raise standards.

    It's after it was revealed more than 700 schools have been struggling to improve for years, including some which have not been rated "good" by Ofsted once in the past ten years.

    Cathy Kirby, the regional director of Ofsted, says there's no simple answer.

    Lincolnshire's gritters have covered a distance equal to a trip to the South Pole and back over the last few days, according to figures released this evening by highways chiefs.

    Lincolnshire County Council says between Friday afternoon and Tuesday morning, the team carried out 11 full runs covering a total of 20,630 miles.

    Shop owners in Cleethorpes say anti-social behaviour is keeping customers away and ruining Christmas trade.

    Traders on St Peter's Avenue in the town claim shoplifting is on the rise and there's begging on the streets.

    Humberside Police and North East Lincolnshire Council insist they're working hard to clamp down on bad behaviour.

  18. Heavy vehicles could be banned on Rawcliffe Bridgepublished at 16:40 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2017

    Heavier vehicles are likely to be banned from using Rawcliffe Bridge in future.

    The 1960s bridge which spans the Dutch River near Goole has been closed since October.

    Engineers have found some of the steel cables which give the bridge its strength are loose.

    A decision on which sorts of vehicles will be allowed over it in future will be made in the new year.

    Managers in charge of Lincolnshire's NHS patient transport service have responded to stinging criticism from the county's health watchdog.

    Thames Ambulance Service took over the non-emergency ambulance service for Lincolnshire around five months ago.

    Today, Lincolnshire County Council's health scrutiny committee challenged managers about missed appointments, long waits for patients and only 50% of calls being answered.

    Graham Briggs from Thames Ambulance Service Limited told me he accepts they've fallen below required standards and says they're committed to improving.

  20. Reducing loneliness high on the agenda in East Ridingpublished at 15:59 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2017

    The risks and effects of loneliness and isolation are being highlighted by the East Riding Health and Wellbeing Board.

    Studies show between six and 13% of the the elderly feel lonely often or always.

    The local authority estimates that approximately 5,400 residents in the East Riding are often or always lonely.

    The Health and Wellbeing board says it's working to find a way to combat loneliness and isolation, and it's looking to hold a summit next year to share best practice.
